At The Salvage Yard
It always helps to get additional eyes on a yard find - thanks for all the comments. I'm not finished with this one and appreciate the tips. The center valance is toast from the wreck, left valance and grill might be OK, horns - check, glass is bulky and hard to store and ship, drums may be damaged but will look again, locks - check, rack - check, brake items - check, buckets tough to get to the bolts without a jack to get wheel well clearance, fender bolts - check. Bart - I probably won't be around in 20 years! BTW - is there any demand for stock brake calipers?

At The Salvage Yard
Spent several hours picking the bones of this sad '73 today - 10/72, VIN 129684. Its been in the yard for several years but still had some bits worth refurbishing and eventually offering to our community. Recounting my recent line "...there's gotta be a pony in there somewhere", I may even have come across a couple of unicorns. Time will tell. A couple of 280's and a bunch of ZX's at this yard - more candy than I could eat today. More pickings yet to come.

Underbody paint color
The cars were painted one color everywhere. The body color paint code is what is used for the underside.

DIY Gland Nut Socket - With PICS!
What a great innovation. I've been lucky with the big honkin' pipe wrench so far but this is all too easy for the next time.

Drivers front wheel touches front valence
Glad to hear it was this simple of a solution (and fix). Good for you! Now you have to 'fess up - where in Texas are you? Quite a few members here from Texas and we're always looking to make a new acquaintance.

Drivers front wheel touches front valence
The T/C rod is what establishes the forward/rearward positioning of the wheel - think of it as the non-adjustable castor setting. If the tire is now hitting the valance, it has moved forward. This suggests the T/C rod is not properly seated where it bolts to the frame. Its not the struts or springs. Even if you removed the T/C rod from the control arm, the bolts that attach the T/C rod are a slip fit so its not likely the problem is at that point.

Bling Alert: Polished 240Z Flow Guide Valve
Here's the version I had heard: A man was walking by the blacksmith's shop and saw a boy madly digging into a large pile of horse manure, flinging it everywhere. He called out to the boy "Young man, why are you digging in that pile of manure?". The boy stopped and replied "Mister, with that much horse $^!# in one place, there's gotta be a pony in there somewhere!".

Bling Alert: Polished 240Z Flow Guide Valve
Presumably so - vapors from the fuel tank and oil pan are routed to the back of the carbs air filter housing to get pulled into the engine for burning. This little valve is mounted just under the ballast resistor.

They just went into the glove box in the car to ensure they make the trip.

Zold to the man up north. I'll hold them for the Austin party! No loonies accepted. Z'ya soon.

FS: S30 Hatch Hinge Boot Plates
If you had bought replacement hatch hinge boots from Nissan years ago, they would have come with these plates that keep the boot from deforming when the hinge is bolted up. The S30 Fairlady fiche correctly shows the boot as an assembly while the online parts catalog does not. The new aftermarket boots available now do not come with these plates and if you're swapping out to new boots, the old plates on your car may be in rough shape. Note that these are not shims (P/N 90407-E4100) of which there may be as many as four on a car. These came off my car (I came by a set of new ones) and are in great shape, newly replated, a correct L/R set. There is no P/N for these items as they were not sold separately. $25 includes shipping within CONUS.

Unicorn Alert: 240Z Fan Shroud
Unicorn: a mythical animal typically represented as a horse with a single straight horn projecting from its forehead. Alt.: a rare Datsun part, usually made of unobtanium. For Sale: Rare Nissan Fan Shroud for 240Z. This is P/N 21475-E4102, a fully reconditioned metal fan shroud to fit the OE radiator frame of a 240Z. This one was stripped to bare metal, acid washed to provide a protective layer of zinc phosphate, two coats of self-etching primer - wet sanded to remove dust, ...etc., two coats of gloss black enamel, wet sanded and buffed. A set of new bolts and washers, newly plated, is included (not JIS). Why all the prep detail? I was planning to install this on my car but determined it was handling the Texas heat just fine with the 3-row radiator core. The last one to sell on JDMCarParts.com went for $500. https://jdm-car-parts.com/…/metal-fan-shroud-for-240z-genui… This one is priced at $400, shipping extra at actual cost.

FS: Refurbished 240Z Glove Box Door
Here's another rescue and refurb item: a complete 240Z glove box door assembly. The logo has been repainted, also the metal hinge plate and right side swing arm have been cleaned and repainted in satin black. The door has a 1" boomerang shape scar on the lower right corner plus a small ding to the left of it. Both are low enough not to be readily visible. The inner panel is in great condition - NO DAMAGE to the hinges. The remnant of the key code sticker is on the panel, its up to a new owner to decide what to do with it. The lock striker is newly replated. All screws and washers are included. It will be shipped knocked down - some assembly required. It may not be a concours-level piece but it will look very good in a driver. $85 includes shipping within CONUS.

Only one set available. $45 includes shipping within CONUS.

Bling Alert: Replated Hatch Lock
Its sold and yes, clear zinc is correct for most everything aft of the firewall. A notable exception is the gas cap and collar. Thanks for telling me I left $ on the table. Actually, I'm not looking to make big money on this stuff - a few bucks for lunch and maybe a decent deal for another enthusiast. That said, I have another unicorn that may get posted if it does not sell locally. It won't be cheap.

Valve Cover Differences
I have two Nissan OHC valve covers from 240Z parts cars - one cover I personally removed from the engine of a 07/72 car. This cover matches the one on my car. The other cover was in the back of a 12/71 car and I presumed it came from that engine. Today I noticed two differences in the second cover: (1) the center section with Nissan OHC is raised the length of the cover to the oil filler neck and (2) the holes for the bolts to secure the plug wire brackets are smaller (the bolts and brackets were not on the cover). In checking the parts catalog, I find the same P/N for the valve cover across the L24/26/28 series - 13264-P0100. Any help on identifying where the second cover came from? S130? Thanks.
