  1. Hey mates Long story short, I've noticed in the past that my passenger side carpet was getting wet everytime it rainned here in Tucson - which isn't that often. I pulled the carpet out and found the floorboard in ok shape - lots of surface rust - but covered in water. This past morning I was driving over to friends house in rain and noticed that evertime I would go over a puddle water would enter the cabin through the large rubber peice in the floor. Does anyone know where one could get these? Are they hard to put in/take out? Thanks mates Jan
  2. Update: Well I came home from work all ready to disassemble the Z. Turned car on, no noise. Waited for said Z to warm up to operating temperature - which took a while - still no noise. Let run at operating temp for ten minutes while attempting to find said noise, nothing. The only things I hear is the cam, exhaust, the intake (which sounds like a vacuum cleaner sucking) and my injectors ticking. No more whine, maybe she was just moody. Jan
  3. Thanks guys, The sound "seems" to be coming from the front area but I can't be 100% positive, as well everything is metal and tends to echo. Blue: Wouldn't timing chain noise be half the speed of the engine since the cam moves half as fast? Jan
  4. Hey mates This evening my Z starting making an interesting whining noise. It goes up and down with engine speed and just seemed to appear though it could have been happening for a bit - I have a bit a loudish exhaust. It doens't matter if the clutch is depressed or not. Question I have is this, other then the alternator and waterpump is there anything mechancial that could make a whinning noise? I'm going to yank the belt of tomorrow and run it with the belt off and see if it's still there but would like your guys opinion. Thanks Jan

Hey mates Just wanted to update you all on the brake pads. I did indeed end up buying said wagner ceramic pads and from the first few rides I prefer these over the centric ones. They just seem a bit quieter and have a bit more stopping power, or at least it feels this way. Thanks Jan
  6. Hey mates The day has come that I need to machine my front rotors and thus need to remove them to take them to a shop. First question, I'm going to repack the bearings - as its been three years since I did them - and wanted to know what is the best way to clean them. I want to clean all the old...ish grease out and put fresh nice grease in. Secondly, what is the best time - suspension loaded or in the air (no load) - to torque everything down to specs? I did my suspension a while ago and just want to make sure all the bolts are nice and torqued like they'res supposed to be. Thanks Jan

By gone I mean that the pads are nearly down to the metal, maybe .25 inch left. Jan

Zed, I used the Centric pads on my car for the past three years (I don't drive so much really) and loved them but sadly they're pretty much gone now. I have a discount on the Wagner pads - $14 a set - which is why I ask. My driver's side pad (inner) is pretty much down to levels where I don't feel really safe driving much more then a few more days. Jan

Hey mates This past afternoon I pulled the calipers off my front rotors to see why they were squeaking. As I had expected the pads are down to their last few mm and in need for a change - I also broke a metal brake line but that's for another day. I was going to purchase a set of Wagner Ceramic brake pads as replacement. Has anyone used these before? I have slotted/vented front rotors for reference, which need to be machined (and will be) before this is all said and done. Thanks mates Jan
  10. Hello all I'm in the market for new rims for my lovely 280z. Can someone explain what offset is to me and how it affects rims? Yes I know I can use google - thank you - I'm hoping someone here will have experience with it. I'm looking at buying these XXR 532 Flat Out OS for my Z. Thanks Jan

Hey guys Question. What is the little rubber weatherstripping on the front top side of the door - nearest the fender - called? Today in Tucson it was exceptionally rainy and after hanging with a friend I found a nice small puddle of water. The passenger's side door was covered in water and the trail seemed to originate there. I'll do the pail trick this weekend - I'll use a hose instead - so that's a good idea. Thanks Jan

Well I have discovered the source of the said issue. Unknown to me my car has a leak on the passenger's side someplace, I want to say the door but it could be the windshield. I only discovered this by taking the passenger's seat out to inspect the relays and such located underneath. Well long and behold there's a puddle of water, under which is a nice light layer of rust - clearly this has been happening for a bit. I cleaned the this afternoon and sprayed about five layers of rubberized undercoating in that area and sealed all the rubber rings. After hanging with a friend this evening I come out to find a small puddle in the same area. Come home and cleaned it out once more. I did leave the window open - oops - so its possible that this is the source. But other then the window does anyone have an idea where this leak could be. Its on the passenger's side. Thanks Jan

Hey mates If I updated my Z to a ZX dizzy - which I have done - can I completely remove the stock ignition box located on the kick pannel? I'm just making 100000% sure. Thanks Jan

Hey guys This afternoon I went to hang out with a good friend of mine. Parked the car and all was good. Came back to the car and found that the seat belt light - red - was on and the buzzer would make noise until I put my seatbelt on. Car started and drove just fine but the light never came off and no matter what I did - including turning the car off - the buzzer will be on with the seat belt off. Anyone have ideas on how this can be fixed? Thanks Jan
  16. To answer above questions I was experimenting to see if a hotter plug would make a difference in my Z. I ran the BPR5ES's for about nine months ago to see if there would be a noticable difference in how the car acted and drove. As for running rich, I have an air/fuel ratio gauge in my Z - in the place of the clock - and during idle it would sit at 11.4 when cold and 12.2 when warm. I don't like it that rich as its bad for too many things - my cat especially. I figured that it was due to the orange deposits on the plugs. Thanks Jan
  17. Hey mates This past evening I changed the plugs out in my Z as she was running oddly rich and rough. This is what I found. Can someone elaborate on why my plugs are orange? They are a bit cooler (5 on the heat range) but I'm wondering. Thanks Jan
  18. Mates I know this has been discussed before but I can't for the life of me find the thread it was on. Is there anything wrong with running BPR6ES in Zs? Thanks Jan
  19. Phil Yes it is possible that air got into your system due to non use. I would start by changing and bleeding the system and seeing what happens. My friends 240Z sat for nearly a decade with a brand new master and slave (he did it right before he put it in storage) and when he went to move it the other day he had no pedal at all. On a related note, if you let your car sit so long I would probably look into changing the gasoline and cleaning the lines - unless you used some sort of gas storage addative. Modern fuel has a tendancy of "splitting" and getting all sorts of gunk everywhere (ethanol fuel anyway). Check the oil and the radiator fluid also, they might need a change. Hope that helps Jan
  20. Interesting update So this is what I've noticed. The said rattle noise occurs during two occasions. It will occur when I first start the car, there will be a bit of a rattle from the top end for a few moments. Then the noise will only occur on decel of the motor, as in, if I rev it to say 3500 and let the throttle go it will rattel at around 1800 rpm. Thanks Jan
  21. Seems to be above 0 on the gauge. Haven't check with a mechanical guage
  22. Patcon Its noise for the first few minutes after start up - I would say about 10 minutes tops. It will do it for a week or two, as in be noisy, and then stop completely as if nothing ever happened. Jan
  23. Guys Ever since I bought my Z in 2009, it seems that everytime I do an oil change the car will be noisy for the first week or so afterwards. By noisy I mean I can hear the chain rattle at idle and when I let off the throttle. I originally thought it was the chain and replaced it - about two years ago - but it didn't really change anything. I'm going to take the front cover off in the future to replace it, but I wondering if anyone has any ideas of what this could be and why it does it after oil changed. Thanks Jan
  24. I had the heater closed. I'll keep you guys updated.
  25. Captain Zeros The fan will move about 1/3 of a turn when the car is off and cold. When the car is hot and off it will maybe move a blade or two over before stopping. Wouldn't say it was "seized" but its pretty hard to move. I didn't drain the system recently but I could have a bubble in there from the heater core maybe, it has a small leak which could cause air to enter I guess. Thanks Jan
