JB Weld
Seems to be pretty useful stuff. I will have to give it a shot as the spot where I need it to repair is full of some complex curves. from standing in the engine compartment looking forward, the bottom inside driver side portion of the rad support is starting to show signs of seperation. seeing that this stuff is pliable and can be drilled and tapped, it seems this may be as sturdy as a small weld job

JB Weld
Has anyone ever used this stuff before? I have a spot on the lower radiator support where it meets the frame rail that would be difficult to fabricate a metal patch that would fit accurately however it does not warrant a new rad support. I have heard stories of this stuff being fantastic and repaired cracked engine blocks, however never in an instance of "body work" per say

gas tanks
anyone know if a 280 coupe gas tank will fit in an early model 260?
-
hey guys what do you think of this car?
I'd be all over that for the price. Nice car, and it has floors. Dude, living in jersey I'll take almost any Z's with solid floors. I'm soooo tired of dealing with having to fix the rot!!

Did you ever bring your car back in to see what was wrong with it after the maaco incident? I remember you said it was running crappy
-
Whats under your hood?
Looks like this will be the following power combo: early 74 260 Rebuilt L28 block and head 72 SU's header R200 5 speed mild cam
-
Only 240's ?????????????
I will be strapping a carburated L28 into the belly of my early 74 260. Does that count?

Only 240's ?????????????
Early model 74 260 owner here!

So how much have you guys invested in your Zeds?
phew, my 74 260 is still a gutted shell in my garage and I have about 6 grand invested and probably another 4 to go. It will be all worth it when it's finished.

sad day for 280
So......I have a sad story to tell. 7 years ago my good friend and felllow Z enthusiast lovingly restored a 78 280. frame up. Car had received a body kit, turbo hood, 76 280 motor & trans, 3 angle valve job, new cam, struts, sway bars, etc etc. It was painted in a 1995 BMW yellow. He ran into some money trouble and sold the car to, well lets say a blithering idiot when it comes to cars. The car developed a short in the harness and lost power to the FI. 11 times I offered my assistance to the new owner which did not interest him. Nope he kept saying, I just need to get out there and get motivated. I bought the car yesterday for 200 bucks. The sunroof proceeded to leak while sitting under the tree for 7 years and well, mother nature whooped this thing. the drivers side floor is bad. The passenger side floor is BAAAAAAAAAAD. This thing rotted so bad it moved into the firewall, completely destroyed under the battery tray (there isn't one) and into the strut tower. The lower portion of the radiator support has also disintegrated. As a parts car I got a goldmine for 200 bucks. In the trunk was a brand new E brake cable and diff mount, a header under the hood, rebuilt motor, nice set of rims, performance struts and sway bars, blah blah blah... Folks, I am not a Z car enthusiast...I am a Z car FANATIC and I probably have a problem (well according to my girlfriend) and it emotionally hurts me to have to render another Z car to the bone yard because of structural rot that is just too much to repair. If I had my way I would save every one. WHich, may end up becoming a business. I'll post some pics when I get them scanned it.

actually there is no need to order a kit. Standard Nissan parts will work fantastically. remember, the Z is virtually interchangable from 1970-1983 with a lot of parts. Let me peruse my documentation and let you know what should work perfectly for you. You will be able to use a distributor from another Z car that will be much more reliable and perform a hell of alot better,. Remember, breaker point ignitions were done away with for a reason!!! If you are looking for something more aftermarket www.victoriabritish.com and www.zcarparts.com sells complete systems and victoria british has an electronic ignition specifically for the 70 and 71 240. Where are you located??

Wow, I did not know you had that many kids!! I commend you for finding the time you have. Your tank question is easy. Any local auto restoration business would be happy to clean out the tank and coat the inside with the sloshing compound. THere are consumer products on the market that are easy and affordable however are highly smelly so you will stink up the garage and with a large family that is a consideration. YOur local restorer will also check all the fittings on top of the tank and make any repairs needed. I would stress checking the rubber and steel fuel lines especially where they come out from the trans tunnel and bend on the firewall. While the 240 is differant than my 74 260, there are many many similarities. You may want to consider changing the oil in the carbs, give all the vaccum lines a once over and FLUSH FLUSH that rad and cooling system. you may want to consider upgrading that distributor and ignition. The original points are cool however the reliability is a pain. almost any year electronic ignition from the early cars would work and give you much better reliability. for your rust you might want to try that POR 15. that would stop the rust and kind of prolong your attack at a full body redo. I am jealous of the car though!!!

control unit
you might have seen me post about the rust in the tank. WEll don't start rewiring your cars just yet. my normal course of action was normally to start at the injection. Clogged injectors are common and it is easy to check to see which ones are the problem. I always would start the car and let it idle. While the car is idling I would one by one pull off the plugs on the injector and listen for a drop in idle. Replace the plug and the idle should pick up again. if a cylindar did not the idle and makes no change at all there is your dead cylindar. Do the same for the cold start valve as well. If that is stuck open, your basically flooding the car. The fuel pressure regulator on top of the fuel rail is a huge culprit in poor performance. While your carburated car may only need 3-5 PSI to run, your injected car needs about 30. I would always have multiples of these laying around as with the crap that was in my tank ate them up. what are your plugs telling you is wrong with the car? they can tell you whether the mixture is too rich, to lean, timing too far advanced etc... I would need to know what you have already checked as this response could be rather lengthy

why can't I have this???
My lord, this car just will not sell. This car is 589 cars newer off the assembly line than mine and has me soiling my drawers!! I have seen it listed atleast 5 times already. bidding starts at 9200.00 but I'm sure this dealership wants somewhere around 15g's http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1849660984

Cherry 1971...guess the reserve
Now that thing is unreal!!! sweet car. Those hubcaps I don't seem to remember on Z's. I seem to remember those on the old pickups. I would be safe to say that guy is probably asking in the 10G range.

71 needs new dash
that place looks legit. They say that the consumer places all the guages back in. you may need to completely disassemble the whole dash prior to sending. Keep us posted if you go through with it.

Aussie help?
419 us dollars new??? I need to check that out

New to Z's, what can I do to mine?
welcome to world of the Z!!
-
Yikes! Anyone want a project?
doehring....I agree, that whale tail is absolutely horrendous as well as the plastic ground effects. I know that I have to be courteous of everyone elses tastes but a Z should be left alone. I say go butcher a honda or something else that are a dime a dozen. MOre and more Z's are being lost to backyard butcher projects. I saw one ontop of what appeared to be a blazer 4X4 frame. I nearly cried!!!

Dash Question
as escanlon said there are some minor changes but it;s a simple swap. Winter project? shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to get in and out.
