  1. what a disgrace. I can;t understand why they just don't go buy the car they are trying to emulate. this arse clown spent 3500 on the fiberglass kit. He could have had a vette for that and left this for the Z guys. :devious: that pic of the glass kit next to the original car is hearbreaking. that car was beautiful!
  2. This guy is suing Bob sharp for breaking his car??? Bob Sharp broken Z????

  7. I second Escanlon's advice. I think we could work him over. He's probably the guy who owns a first gen car with the acclaimed "RARE" five speed. To quote bambi....what a putz
  8. sad sad day :sleepy: :tapemouth :disappoin disappointed and what the heck is a whale tail and why do Z's keep growing them and another I know this hobby is everyone's personal preference but this hurts
  9. Now we are talking!!!! welcome to the site. Finally, another person from the site somewhat close to me. I am in blairstown NJ which should be about and hour and 45 minutes or so from you. first Do a search on the site for your answers as these topics have been discussed in great detail. feel free to shoot me an email. Also check out NJ Z club This the club I belong to and the guys are wonderful. We just had our first meeting of the year last sunday in somerville. 10. oh bambi how right you are!!! Some of the basket cases I have had to "glue" back together are quite the projects
  11. Def keep us informed of what this thing goes for. While I am not going to get involved in the 4 page debate on the value of this one, I am curious to see how much it goes for. Good luck on the sale
  12. I agree with escanlon. Looking at the picture as i am typing that whole section needs to be replaced. The inner fender well and frame rail both tie into the toeboard and essentially the firewall. The seam where that all ties together is gone and I can imagine how soft that whole area is. Since the cancer has gotten as bad as it is, I'm sure once you get undereath the undercoating you'll see just how far the rust has spread. If you have welding experience this isn't that bad as far as repairs go, honestly more time than anything to fabricate new metal and not just patch panels. however if you are looking to have someone do it, I know that Auto Rust doctors here in jersey (same shop Wick Humble had his car done) charges about 1500 to do the floors and frame rails with a 5 year warranty. This place specializes in gluing these things back together and I imagine would be much faster and more precise than just any old shop.

Yeah they would essentially be the same. THe Zedd findings rails are a a little more of a closer fit than the MSA kit. I know MSA offers two styles of floor kits also, the premium and the standard. Personally I prefer the Zedd findings product to the MSA as I have experienced a better fit. Keep checking the exchange rates with canada as the price on the zedd findings website is quoted in Canadian loot.

VB has started selling frame rails? Last I saw they offered everything else except floors and the rails. The last catalog I received was the winter 02
  15. IMO I have always performed and replaced the following on an overhaul 1. Compression test. This always lets me know whether I need rings or not 2. measure the cylindar bore 3. pressure check the cooling system 4. Inspect all bearings on lower end 5. new gaskets 6. oil pump 7. water pump 8. full valve job 9. timing chain 10. clutch 11. belts 12. hoses 13. clean the carbs if applicable 14. hot tank the block 15. replace all seals That seems about it.
  16. well I can honestly say that I have not seen that type of break on a Z. def a first seeing that seam seperate. I agree with 2 many in that the best course of action is to get down and dirty and really dig into both sides. removing all the undercoating to ensure that you can identify all the problem areas. The money you spend to save this car, you would spend on another one anyway and who knows what problems that would have anyway. This one is very saveable. Now, if it was like the 280 in my garage , it would be questionable. It has lost a large portion of the passenger firewall, inner fender well, both floors, seatbelt mounts, and rad support. All of your rotted metal has to be cut out in order to have something to weld the patch panels in. How is underneath the battery in yours?
  17. sounds like some of the cars I come across here in jersey. As I have posted before, it's time to take the plates off the car, cancel the insurance and get to work. Gathering from what you described that tc rod bracket ties into the firewall, inner fender well, and frame rail. The frame rail kits are available and beleive it or not aren;t that difficult to install IF the firewall and inner fender well aren't swiss cheese. Generally something like this gurantees other problems and you won;t know until you get the undercoating off to fully see. I suggest going over the whole car with a scraper and a screwdriver. start scraping off the flaky undercoating that comes off easily. The with the screwdriver, start poking. It can be scary to be poking solid metal and then all of a sudden the scredriver goes through. Putting the car on stands (under the front crossmember) remove the wheels and start on where the inner fender well ties into the frame rail and firewall/toe board and work your way around the front of the car. This will give you a good assessment of how bad the cancer has spread. I have one of the cases in my garage currently.
  18. I honestly hope this is a goof. although, I guess you can never be too sure :stupid:
  19. By putting the 240 bumpers on a 280, would that not violate inspection laws? the fed's required those bumpers to meet the crash standards of the time of the 280. Your 280 with 240 bumpers could be in non-compliance with local inspection laws. Mechanically, yes I beleive they fit.
  20. Thanks mr perdue. I just cranked an email out to Kmack. I find this to be an invaluable tool and whether you use it again or not, you ahve it and it's paid for. The 2X4 idea I guess works, however I would like the ease of wheeling the car in and out of the shop, plus you can wheel it into the corner for storage and what not. I tend to always have a lot of cars at one time so I always have stuff in and out of the shop all the time. being able to roll the car over makes welding floors and such in a heck of a lot easier while standing up.
  21. Did you purchase your rotisserie or construct it? If you purchased it, where and you guessed it, how much.
  22. aside from being a die hard Z guy, I am also a hard core music person and part of a concert promotional staff. I do all of the audience and soundboard taping for all of the concerts we promote. My login name comes from one of my favorite Dead songs. The music sites I am a part of, my login name is datsun... however I think when I tried to register that it was already taken.
  23. I must have some isssues. As morbid as that story is, I would buy this car.
  24. Bart, do a search on the site. This one has been talked about in many many previous discussions and there is a plethora of useful information out there pertaining to model numbers on intakes and carb's
