  1. Run some steel wool over them.
  2. Spray can.
  3. Fwwww, that's a relief, for one moment I had thought you had gone over to the "dark side" and started to pronounce zee!
  4. TRy Galmet Rustpaint Epoxy finish I've used the Silver & it came out OK.
  5. Hey Alfa, That's a LHD, in Australia? What's up or is your location Austria?
  6. Before you go pulling anything apart, firstly get a can of CRC or RP7. Undo the covers protecting the combination switch, then spray the contacts with CRC, work the switch(s) and hopefully your problem will be solved without pulling to much apart!

Well I finally solved it. It was so fustrating that I'm posting the solution that in the unlikely event it may happen to any other poor unfortunate member. It was all caused by the vacuum advance. Just to clarify the situation as all zeds are different, my 260 came with a 280z/x hitachi distributer, so this may not apply to 240's or other 260's with similar symptoms. The wire at the top of the capacitor had actually broken, even though the insulation was intact and a visible inspection showing all to be OK. The cause of this was the vacuum advance, which, when advanced moved the capacitor against the distributor case. This over time caused stress fatigue and eventual breaking of the wire. Very fustrating as a check for spark indicated all to be well [admitadly, the spark was weak] when cranking over but no spark when the engine starts. MN:devious:

Did you solve the problem? My 260's is showing similar problems. Was country driving when it just died. Has spark, flows fuel and I'm bugggered as to why it has just stopped! Replaced filter, new dist cap & rotor, still no go. MN:ermm:
  9. Pretty neat! Now that you've started with the pic's, how about the rest. Does the setup still exist? Was it succesfull? What else can you tell us about it?
  10. Sure, Go to post reply and scroll down. Use the attach file feature. MN
  11. Yes, I've replaced it. Now before anyone asks, I'm not exactly what it came out of as I simply asked my mecanic if it could be done, to wit he answered yes and handed me the speedo. Now I also have a 260 and they appear the same [from memory]. I'll take a photo tonight of both and post it tomorrow.
  12. Cuong, Could you upload these photo's to this thread?
  13. Probably not as noticable on a 240, however once you move to a 280 I would suspect that there would have to be a difference. Reading between the lines of your reply, I'm getting the feeling that your of the opinion that triple carbs on a 240 would be a waste of time and money? I guess it opens up a can of worms, is there anyone out there that did just that, without altering any other aspect of the engine and can comment on the performance aspect?
  14. Was this the original wattage on the "works" cars? The catalogue I have list the Euro versions as Hella, but it doesn't mention wattage or an altenator upgrade?
  15. I can't understand the problems some are experiancing on this topic! If you want to convert to KPH, simply find a 260Z [or a 2+2] and pull the speedo, it's a STRAIGHT swap.
  16. I should add that if you intend to swap over with the dash in situ, it helps if you have japanese sized hands or are a gynacologist!
  17. Absolutely, the're interchangable.
  18. Grade win in the Experts Rally a month or so ago. We could have placed higher in the field but when it came to finding obscure roads [tracks] the light pattern was all forward and little to the left/right side, consequently we where overshoting nearly every track. With a spread beam, I'm guessing the sides will be illuminated sufficiently. Thanks for the info and "how to" on the Monte Carlo Bumpers, just on last question, how many watts are the Lucas [i won't even try any Lucas jokes] lights?
  19. After last weekend I've become motivated again and would like to finish the front light rail on my 240. Just a couple of questions first. Guus, what size lights are you using? Are they all the same beam pattern or are you using a combination? The Hellas that I have are 170mm 100amp Pencil Beam. I'm tempted to match them with Narva 150mm 100 amp Spread Beam, mainly beacuse of price considerations. [strange that there is a price difference, especially when one considers both originate from Germany?] TIA
  20. Well, I guess it's safe to say it was mph in 73 240's. I couldn't be sure as I'm not certain how late or early my 73 is/was! Definate changover in the first 260?
  21. Straight swap from either a late 240 or 260. The gauge is exactly the same.

Hey H4, Both Hella & Narva are German made, on the surface it appears that both are excellent quality, so how do they compare? The DL on the zed are Hella pencil beam, after reading the Narva Cat, I'm left wondering if the Narva wide beams wouldn't be a bad choice to complete the front lighting rail. After all, globes are globes, but are the reflectors the same? Opinions please!!
  23. Zedrally replied to Ed's topic in Electrical
Local Narva site doesn't list severe duty, is this just a terminology thing? http://www.narva.com.au/Globes11.html
  24. Don't have that either, but did find the cigar lighter the other night!
  25. Hazards!!!! My 73 didn't come equipped! Is this another anomoly in RHD models?
