No Problem Royce. I'll grab the digital camera and head to the wreckers sometime this week (if not the w/end) and take some pix for you all. Did anyone else get the '70's skylines? two and four door versions? I'll definately take one of the 240C,260C 240K (there was a GT version of this with the Z engine that is pretty lethal, a GT I think) and anything else that catches my eye. Any special requests Cheers, R.
  2. I'll add to the chorus, that is a really nice ride HS30-H! No matter what people say I recon' it looks pretty cool with the bolt on flares and G nose.... Well Done! As an aside one of Australia's most popular muscle cars from the '70's has the bolt on flare look, the A9X Torana. It has a cult following so I must say, the idea of bolt on flares does incite the feeling of power and makes almost any '70's sports/muslce car look mean. It gives you something that 99% of modern cars just can't muster. Road presence. R.

AlphaD, It's is very worthwhile looking into these ugly beasties as they can have some wonderful parts if you know what to look for. I've managed to find an N42 head (bigger valve and with grooves for injectors) from an old skyline (C110 I think) for only $50. Adelaide Z Cars quoted me $350 for the same head! Also on the 260C's, if you check the head designation (ie E88) you will find that a lot of them seem to run the same head as my new 260Z parts car. The reason that they are less powerful is that the carby they run is a piece of sh*t, and they are heavier. As for the drive train, I think the trannies are the same, but do they run IRS? I seem to remember a mates was leaf sprung, but I'd have to visit the boneyard to be sure.... If they are IRS I'm out looking for an R200 straight away if only I knew what to look for! Hope that helps a little, Cheers, R.

Well Done Alpha! That is a sweet looking ride though, very clean and straight! Cheers, R.

Hey Alan, You know we wouldn't dare say it looked anything other than good Seriously though it does actually look quite good. Its funky in a retro kind of way, not what you want to see every day but it makes the car.... Cheers, Ross

Hey Alpha, That's pretty cool considering the size of the game and the age! Can you get it in the shops at all? I don't think I've ever seen it out there... Cheers, Ross.

Hey Gav, Do you know where or how to get a Gnose from in Australia? This goes for the flares as well? The only place I can find in Adelaide that has anything to do with Z cars is "Adelaide Z Cars" and I know more about the carbs and other bits than them! Cheers, R.
  8. That site is wild! Great way to releive the boredom

Hey Doug, The best place in Australia i've found for plastic models (and quite a few die cast ones) is Sherriffs Mini-Cars Pty Ltd in Baulkham Hills NSW. The guy who runs the show is Geoff Sherriff and you can call him on 0417 647 649. He does mail stuff out but I haven't tried that yet. Last time he had a stall in Adelaide (at the Royal Show) he had a couple of Fairlady Z models, I just couldn't afford them at the time. Pity now I look back... Anyway, give him a shot. Cheers, Ross.

If you could post a screen shot Alpha, that would be great! On the subject of thrashing Nissan's/Datsuns in an electronic sense check this game out; http://www.racer.nl/ It is completely free and has the option of a couple of the old BRE racing team cars. The handling is a little funny but as close as you could get to a Zed on a PC If you've got spare time and bandwidth give it a shot! The Mini that you can d/load is also a bit of fun, not to mention the Ferrari that someone has created Cheers, R.
  11. Thanks for that Alan, it's all very interesting the bits and pieces you see around on the roads and the history behind it! Cheers, R.
  12. Thanks for that HS30-H! That explains why one of my 260Z's shows "2 + 2 GRS Sports Auto" on the compliance plate. Do you know what options where possible on Australia/UK delivered vehicles? (Trim, Carbies etc) The two 260Z's, although they look the same have all manner of differences between them. Everything from fairly major reworking of back interior panels to electircal changes and extra lights! .... All very interesting Cheers! Ross.
  13. "These other versions include the PS30, PS30-SB, S30-S, S30 base model, HS30 and HS30-H etc etc. " Further to the above quote, was the GRS30 merely the Australian version of all of this? and is this code usually displayed before the build number ie GRS00004564 (or something similar)?? Thanks, Ross.
  14. If you need a shed do what I'm doing (if you've got the space of course), build one yourself. I needed a shed when I moved in to our new house. Only problem is I needed to pull the old one down (before it fell on my Zed) and build the new one too.... I think next time I'll leave it to the professionals, I still don't know how to complete the massive hole in the ground that will become my pit! I started 6 months ago and just don't have the time, but 20ftx30ft should be enough room for me... May be a little small though R.
  15. If you're talking about the flat top Carbs then the only place I've found in Australia to stock the is a carby shop in the ACT. I can't remember the name of the shop but his name is Justin Houlahan and his address is fomoco@actweb.net. Give them a try, as they do mail order stuff as well. Cheers, R
  16. My girlfriend has a horrible habit of cleaning up my gear from around the house and putting it 'somewhere'. Never the same place twice. If I file stuff its all together so I at least have a snowballs chance in hell of finding it again. Like last week I received mail and 20min's later I can't find it. "Where has it gone" I ask her? "Well", comes the reply, "It's been filed away because it looked messy..... " Messy sitting on the coffee table? Our house now has numerous draws where little things reside, from clips for my grill/trim to important bills and all in the name of being neat and tidy. There is no organisation to it though! She can usually only guess at where it is, whereas if it had been left on the coffee table I would know in exactly which pile it is as the piles are usually chronologically ordered... Ah well, I spose I shouldn't complain really I just need to learn to put them somewhere quickly R.

Hi All, A mate just sent me a link to this site... Pretty funny really and well worded so that you can almost believe it http://www.kalecoauto.com/ Look under the performance section for someone's strange sense of humour... I hope Cheers, Ross.

Hi All, I've had the last week off work and while out and about a 1977 260Z 2+2 caught my eye in a Car yard with a price tag of AU$1699. To cut a long story short I'm now $500 poorer but one very bad shape 260Z richer... I only intend to use her for parts as the body has rusted beyond repair, and I think it it rains too hard in the next few weeks I'll be driving a convertible! Thats how rusty the roof is! Anyway the engine is mint and has a very nice set of the earlier round topped SU's. (I'll attach photo's when I get them back) The point of this post however is what the compliance plate reads. My other 260Z 2+2 which is about build number 16000 shows "260Z 2+2" as expected. The new car however shows "2+2 GRS Sports Auto". Now this car is around build number 4000 and has had 1975 stamped over with 1977 on the compliance plate. What I want to know is what is the difference and is there anything special about this one?? Cheers, Ross.
  19. I thought I'd seen it all. The stupid graphics, massive spoilers (even seen dudes defected for dangerous body kits") exhaust dump pipes that would more suit a semi trailer than a <insert 4 cyclinder make/model here>. I've even seen small wings on the top hatch of Mirage's Now I HAVE seen it all. I found a site (sorry guys I can't find the address) that advertised fake blow off valves. Not the ones that hide in the engine bay and try to look convincing (even if there's no turbo to be seen), but a device that you hook up to your TPS sensor and as you come off the throttle it make the blow off valve noise. The kit includes a loud speaker, that for best results should be installed facing the ground as this gives the most convincing sound. The ad raves on about how you can adjust the sound and the volume and even adjust the timing to "Suit you driving style". What driving style? You've just installed a speaker and an amplifier IN THE ENGINE BAY! How can you have a driving style! Next they'll have engine covers that you put over your engine to make it look like a Skyline RB20 or a 300Zx's VG30! Could someone please explain this all to me! A very tired and confusedRoss.
  20. That's it! Along with the blood sucking Koala's that seem to be popping up in popular culture (ie the Simpsons) nothing can stop us!
  21. Ha, Ha! Great post. I've never owned a car newer than 1984 and I don' really want to. By the year 2010 all cars will look the same and only the badges will tell them apart. Give me a Z any day. Cheers, Ross.
  22. I had that problem on my flat tops after I'd rebuilt the head... Turned out to be the vacuum advance had been hooked up on the wrong part of the manifold. Once I disconnected it and put it on the right fitting it sorted itself out and ran smooth as. I sounded really bad and smelt worse while it was doing it though and usually stalled the engine. Cheers, Ross.
  23. Damn wrong picture, lets try this one...
  24. Hi guys, Man, that took a while to read all of those posts! The only problem with wading through that lot is that I now want to go back into the shed and keep working on the Z Anyway, my name is Ross, I'm not quite married (but she's pushing:) ), two cats, two mortgages, one Zed, an Isuzu Bellet and a Holden Gemini (Chevrolet Chevette or Pontiac T1000 in America, and the Vauxhall Chevette in the UK or Opel Kadett I think... ) and I really don't have enough time! I'm only 23 so I seem to be amoung the minority on here, but I do work in IT, doing technical support for one of Australia's biggest banks. I run most of the EFTPOS network for afore mentioned bank and have just started doing a CCNA. I race a Holden Gemini with a DOHC Efi 2L in it at the local circuit down here, and I think a T3 is in the works. Where's here I hear you ask? I'm down in sunny Adelaide, in South Australia which I think I saw a couple of other guys on here who are local? Small world I've been working on my 260Z 2 + 2 for a little while now but I'm not really getting anywhere as I've just bought a house which doesn't have a shed... I'm also in the market for a 240z or 260z as a daily driver so if anyone has one.... Drop me a line. Oh, well. Hope to pick your brains soon for info as the engine has finally died and I think a rebuild is in order. Thanks, Ross.

Thanks Ivan. Currently the RB30 is still cheaper and with a lot more in the way of after market goodies but I see things changing soon as cheaper imports take over. I think I'll bide my time and go for the RB20 down the track Cheers for the input!
