Here's an FYI from a similiar question I asked: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23993 I like the white, but ultimatley bought Orange with Black.
  2. If it didn't cost $1k to ship to Tennessee I would grab it.....Love that GREEN
  3. Mike, Thank you!!! Exactly my point. There are no panels to replace, just one small rust hole that I wanted cut out and replaced with metal. I sat down with the shop manager and together we went over my expectations, including the time frame. The shop stated if I wanted it done cheaper they could treat it like a "work in" or I could pay more ($4100) and they would do the work on the time line we talked about. So yes the time estimate was part of the price, and I have it in writting. Keep in mind that before this estimate was given they went over my entire car for about 45 min....except for the small hole nothing major seemed to be hidden.....could there be? sure. The lowest estimate I received did include repairs with metal, however more of a re-spray, they didn't want to sand or remove glass. The $12k was just to run me off, the owner actually said he didn't want the job, but would do it if I wanted to fork over that sum....no thanks. The rest all fell in between. The ideal shop wanted the job, but told me upfront that they couldn't even think about it till summer, and then it would be 2-4 months......I simply didn't want to wait. The shop I chose does great work, I looked at a few classic's they had done as well as late model jobs, and I actually thought the price would be higher, so I was very pleased. I wasn't worked up at all earlier, I'm sorry if that was the impression. I was just simply putting down my thoughts. Escanlon, your reply actually made me laugh, I thought I was listening to Rush Limbaugh with all those fancy words....remember I'm in the mountains... Thanks for everyone's opinions, I'll post some pictures in 15-18 days according to my time frame...a joke, a joke, PS....Moonpup, the centers will look great with the new paint......
  4. Two weeks and nothing is done??? I would trade in a minute. If I were paying a reduced price and being worked in then I would agree with you, however I'm not. We, (the shop manager and I) both sat down and discussed the project, so when he told me 4-6 weeks, I expect 4-6 weeks, and would have thought they would have least started something. My point about meeting customers expectations is that if you are paying for your classic to be painted, fixed, etc, and I mean paying a premium, then the shop has an obligation to do your job in a resonable time frame, not to be "worked in" with their bread and butter insurance work. Like Arne said, if they say 12 weeks fine, but be done in 12 weeks. Seven shops I "Interviewed" had no customer service, were rude, dirty, and gave the overall impression of WE DON'T WANT YOUR BUSINESS. How they stay in business is beyond me. I want the job done right, and I don't mind paying for it, so out of Enrique's three choices of: FAST- CORRECT- INEXPENSIVE- PICK TWO! I'll take Correct and Fast.......Fast being in a resonable time.
  5. Zedman, Just a thought, but you may want to provide a link to paypal, or your paypal address. This way it's just a one click process, much like Ebay. I think you will find that the easier you make it the more shirts you will sell. Otherwise sending you a PM everytime there's an order will be more time consuming for both buyer and seller. Or, I'll be happy to route it through mine for a 20% cut...... :nervous: Just food for thought that might boost your sales. Regards, Randy
  6. Hey Louis, Yes, we have the Smokey MTN Z club, you should be able to google it. It is a very active club from what I've seen so far, I just joined last month. I have family in Johnson City, so I know the area well. If you find yourself back in TN let me know and I'll meet you at the next meeting. Here's a link to the club: http://www.automedic.org/smzcc/ Regards, Randy

    How long did it take?
  8. Yea, I kinda expected this would be the case. Can you imagine how successful a shop would be if they actually performed to the customers expectations.........then again, I guess the current shops are too busy to finish on time as it is.

I'm having three small rust areas cut out and put back with metal, sanding the car, and complete paint job minus the engine bay. Price is $4,100.00 That also includes removing all glass. I got estimates from a low of $3,000 to a high of $12,000. Original color, not a paint change. Good Luck.....
  10. Well, I dropped my Z off two weeks ago at the body shop for very small repair and complete paint job. I drove by today just to check in and the car hasn't moved from the spot I left it. They did say 4-6 weeks, so yes Im frustrated over nothing, but was hoping they had at least started something, but hey 4 weeks left in their "time frame" It's not a "work in", so hopefully they will be finished on time.....I know, don't hold my breath. When it gets back I'll throw some pictures up. Randy
  11. Looks really good, nice job on the console. I just got the side stripes for my 73, same color as yours, but still in the shop for paint and minor body work. Your car gave me the perfect visual of what I have to look forward to. Randy
  12. Ok, the mystery is solved, I have found the answer.............. After carefully inspecting my little green 240z model that I bought at a local toy store years ago, and comparing it to the recent little silver model my wife bought me years ago and factoring in how much sun comes thru my office window, and the speed at which the negative ions react within the atmosphere of my desk, the color actually turns out to be .........just plain ole flat black...... The point being I have absolutley no idea what I'm talking about, and just wanted to break the tension a little......(but really my little model has flat black...

    Here's another if it helps.......not as pretty as Arne's FYI...This is 1973, not 71
  14. Thanks Arne, I must have skipped right past it.......I'm getting old.
  15. Hey folks, I have searched Courtsey, Blackdragon, and Too Intense, (couldn't search Motorsports the search feature was down) but I can't find the Rubber seal or gasket that goes around the rear taillight assembly. Car is in the shop being painted, and I have all the rubber and seals except for these pieces. It is just one piece per light I'm assuming. I'm also hoping it will help with what little exhuast is coming through as well. What is the proper termanology used for this seal, and who has them. Thanks Randy
  16. Base and Clear.....
  17. Hey Doug, I am going to leave them off, I like the look better without them. How is your side molding attached to your 72? When I removed mine it was adhered with glue or tape, I assumed they would be screwed or rivoted, so I wasn't sure if this was a dealer add on or previous owner.
  18. No, it does not included the engine bay. Were you happy with the turnout and price? what all did you learn. Thanks,

    Carpet is gone.......
  20. Carl......THANK YOU, I have never done this before so your advice is invaluable. I am having the whole car done. There is one rust hole on the drivers side runner and surface on the passanger side. The shop said they would cut out all the rust areas and put back with metal. They will also be painting the whole car back to it's original color, I'm not changing it. They will also fix all dents and dings. They (the shop) did state that they would have the glass company come out to remove the windshield and hatch glass. I already had ordered the rubber seals and have them in hand. I will also be replacing the windshield at that time with new rubber. (Should I keep the original, is it worth anything?) They are also going to fix the drivers side door, it never shut correctly. The quote I received was $4100......Does this sound resonable? Thanks again for any advice Quick edit from mike's post.... I am looking to get a very nice paint job and the body work fixed. The manager of the shop stated that I could shave off a few dollars by removing any items I felt comfortable with.

If anyone needs a carpet piece for the hatch, this came out of my 73 240. It's not perfect but with the new carpet paints it would look nice. I would rather someone who needs one use it instead of throwing it away. So, if anyone wants it leave me your name and address and I'll ship it to you...FREE.(snail mail of course) Randy
  22. It's time to get the body work and paint needed for my 73 240. I got several quotes for the work and will take the car in next week. I have already pulled off the bumpers and all emblems, and washed the grim off the car. What else should I do to the car before taking it in? Should I remove all the weatherstripping? Here are the before and after shots of the car, so if something sticks out that I didnt remove let me know. Thanks, Randy
  23. Wow!!! I have never seen that kind of snow, Knoxville would be shut down for a month. Hey at least you guys can go sleeding...
  24. Does anyone know if the green paint used on the 70/71 240's is basiclly the same as BRG. I think Datsun called it "Racing Green" but wasn't sure how the color differed from BRG. Also did they use this color green at all in 72/73? I want to add one more 240 to the garage but only want one in Green. Thanks for any input.
  25. Just got back from a great cruise through the beautiful Smokey Mountains, (not to rub it in but were having another 62 degree day here in East Tennessee). The Z did GREAT!! Anyway I pulled in the driveway and thought I would snap some pictures since the car was already clean. Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Happy New Year. Randy
