  1. I was a little leery of using them on my 260. They didn't feel like they would stay on without a "snap" fit. But I used them anyway. Once they are tightened down they are a pretty tight fit. Even when filled with grease they appear to be sealed tight. I don't see them being a problem, but I only have about 50 miles on them since replacing all the bushings. FWIW Todd
  2. It's shown on the parts CD on page 125 A-1, Item #2 "Assy- Grille Lower Radiator" on cars from 9/74. Todd
  3. My car has the round Weiand air cleaners on it. I was able to find new elements (Longflo) for them at http://www.victoriabritish.com/icatalog/t6/0026.html They fit perfectly. The Black Dragon catalog only shows the oval ones. Todd
  4. I am in the midst of replacing the exhaust system on my 260 and was wondering how the piping from the differential mount rearward should be routed. Did the factory system route above or below the A-arm? I ask because the existing exhaust on the car was routed over the halfshaft to the muffler but most of the pictures I can find show it under the arm then up to the muffler. Thanks, Todd

Here's a scan of the page that you should be able to read. Todd
  7. Chris, It appears that the red cable coming out of the fender is the coil wire to the distributor. The view angle makes it look like its attached to the fender. Thats probably one reason it won't run :stupid: Todd

I have the same problems with the tach on my early 74 that I haven't figured out yet. If your ignition is stock for 74 then you should have the resistor attached per Page EE-27 of the FSM to protect the "Transistor Ignition Unit". It describes your ignition system and its components. Attached is a pdf of that page. Todd EE-27.PDF

Assuming your car is a 74 US 260, it is a switch that allows you to by bypass the "Seat Belt - Ignition Interlock" system. From the factory the car could not be started if you or a passenger were not wearing your seat belts. To bypass the system you would have to turn the key to "ON" then get out and push that button, then the car would start. Royal PITA. Datsun issued technical info on how to disable it in a 12/12/74 tech memo as stated on pg 197 of Wick Humble's book. Your car has probably already been disabled if you can start it without the seat belts fastened. Todd
  10. It is shown on the drawing of the exhaust system on the Parts CD for cars built from Aug 73 - Nov74. It doesn't show a seperate part number for it though. Earlier cars are shown with a different exhaust. Todd
  11. Will, I consider the thick tar coating to be "undercoating". The yellow/beige color is a primer over the raw steel. On this car, the "tar" layer was definitley applied at the factory prior to painting. There are too many hidden places where the body color is over the tar, like on the spare tire well above the gas tank. Here are a couple more pics. This is a 260 not a 240. Todd
  12. FWIW, my early 260 came from the factory with "undercoating". The metal underneath was primed or painted a light yellow or beige color. As can be seen in the photos below all of the hole locations and component mounting areas were crudely masked off with tape before coating. The fenderwell photo shows where some of the tape was blown off when I pressure washed the underside. There is original body color overspray on top of this undercoating in numerous locations. Todd
  13. FWIW, My early 260 (2/74) RLS30 025991 has the ID plate on the inner fender in front of the right strut tower. Here's a picture of the ID plate and the VIN location on the firewall. Todd
