What do the Vacuum Solenoids Do?

Featured Replies

I can't see what good those things are & can probably be removed & replaced with a tee or a splitter like I use on the aquarium! LOL really, if those are solenoids, what makes them operate & what do they control or switch?

thx.

What solinoids, where?

If they are soilinoids then presumably they turn the vacume on and off ocassionally. otherwise they would just be on all the time if you replaced them with t pipes.

On a80Z, the vacuum solenoids are of the right side next to the fuse links.

If I remember correctly, at least one of them supplies and cuts the vacuum supply to the vacuum valve for the heater core. When that vacuum valve under the dash has no vacuum, you have no heat.

Actually, if you don't have any or not enough vacuum to the heater you can't change direction it blows. You can still run the fan, tho. Otherwise, he heater is the only thing that i know of that needs the vacuum power, so you could eliminate all the extra vacuum control stuff.

On Aussie 260Z + the solenoids control the air conditioning [if fitted] and heater.

They operate the air control doors and need to be operational if ANY heating or cooling is required.

I agree that you need vacuum to move the door/flaps, but that's controlled by the heater function lever, no? Still unsure what the servos do.

Having a nice summer? It was 0 C here in midwest USA today.

On 260 models [& probably 280] all air functions are contolled by vaccum.

This was a product of the new style dash.

I'm quite aware that all the heater functions are controlled by vacuum through the function lever.

I'm not sure you know what my question was.

Each "solenoid" has only one inlet and one outlet. No wires or anything else. This leads me to conclude that these are some kind of check valve, and could be removed or replacedwith a simpler inline check valve.

Alternating Current? LOL

My car has no a/c, so that means I can remove those things.

Yes, in that case you can. Just plug up the holes.

[i can now understand why these where a mystery to you, maybe a PO ditched the A/c as there is no reason for the factory to add these].
