Posted October 23, 200321 yr comment_54284 Hello,I have a '71 240Z. The car sat several years in a my father's garage. I started it up and it runs fine except gas filled up the bottom of the air cleaner while it was running. What causes this? Should I take the carbs off and rebuild them? Or just use carb cleaner or something? What's a good source for a rebuild kit if I need to do that?I'm new to z-cars and have limited experience in mechanics; but I've done breaks, tune-ups, etc... Thanks! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8525-gas-filling-up-air-cleaner/ Share on other sites
October 23, 200321 yr comment_54288 Sounds like the float in one carb or the other may be stuck. The best thing rebuild kits are from ZTherapy, and you will be way ahead of the game if you also buy their tune-up video at the same time, it will answer a ton of questions before you even start tinkering with the carbs.http://www.ztherapy.com/ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/8525-gas-filling-up-air-cleaner/#findComment-54288 Share on other sites
October 23, 200321 yr comment_54293 Yeah 2mz's is on target. The fuel overflows from the hose on the top of the carb bowls that attach to the air cleaner.Find the wet hose and you know your problem. If you have the drain on the side of the bowl that may get the trash out.I have had luck tapping the carb bowl with the rubber handle end of a screwdriver.DO iT EASY!! That pot metal will crack.Trash seems to be the problem. If the lines aren't clean a rebuild will buy you nothing.
