Bumping noise

CRIPES !!! but it's frustrating.

My '74 260 Z has developed a bumping, thumping noise which appears to be in the area of the rear right suspension.

I've pushed, pulled, twisted and shoved at everything I can lay hands on.

My mechanic had the car up on the hoist today after I'd driven him around, trying to pin point the noise and he couldn't locate the problem either.

Any suggestions ??????

Rick.

Is the bumping noise constant or only when you do something in particular? It doesn't happen just at night does it? Cause then it would be something that goes bump in the night.

this past summer. Is it in the shock area? Do you hear it when you go over any slight bump? It might be the same problem i had: a loose gland nut on your strut. Remedy: Jack up the car ever so slightly until the tire is just off the ground. then look through the spring and you should see where the gland nut screws into the housing. you will prob have to lift up the strut boot. Get Channel Lock pliers and grab the nut, it'll be hard to do and you may have to adjust the jack to get to it. turn and tighten as much as you can and you should be good to go.

cnixgo,

Thanks for that mate.

I recently had all the shock absorbers replaced so there's a good chance you might be right.

I've printed out your suggestion and will take it to my mechanic on Thursday.

OH, Tanny, Tanny, Tanny.

ROFLLOLROFLLOL

I should have known that you would come up with such a logical answer to my problem.

Thanks mate.

No, slav, I still haven't found the problem.

Had the suspension pulled down a couple of times since but the damned "Bump" is STILL there.

Talk about frustration.

Rick.

Might be a silly question but what is the condition of your lower bushes?

Are your drum brakes in good condition? just trying to get an idea here. :classic:

if you have camber bushings in the rear swing arm, replace them with urethane bushings. that was the problem with mine(bump noise problems

IF it is a clunk when you shift or step on the gas, it may be your u-joints. I get to replace mine this winter :ermm:
