Can i use a taylor 8.2 mm cable wire from coil to distributor

Featured Replies

Is it safe to replace only the coil to distributor wire with taylor 8.2mm cable and leave the other 6 ngk ne61 blue spark plug wires as they are? I noticed the blug ngk coil to distributor wire measured 3.74 k while the same taylor wire mesure 76.4k.

Should be just fine.

Any risk of damaging the coil or the pertronix 1761 module fastened to the hitachi single point distributor as i am mixing two types of spark plug cables? I am not an electromechanic or electrician. Your advice will be greatly received.

Well i inspected the 1761 pertronix ignitor module and still nothing burned. Hope it lasts and wont fail while im driving or idling during traffic jam.

Jalex,

I was out cruising today in about 90 degree F temp in stop and go traffic. When I looked at my temp gauge it made me think of you. I run a 3 row Champion radiator with electric fans 160 degree thermostat, also converted to Evans waterless coolant back in 2017 as it has a much higher boiling point which keeps steam bubbles from forming on the cylinder walls. Also run a ZX electronic distributor and coil with Taylor plug wires and coil wire, resistor deleted. ZTherapy did my SU's back in 2017 and I've never touched them since I put them on the car. Car runs just fine in heavy traffic with my temp gauge looking like this. This is about as high as it ever gets, but it's never been an issue with the way the car runs. Engine is original, never been out of the car.

Maybe its normal. The only issue i do notice is that at such temp you show rpm does not remain steady and fluctuates up and down! Is this normal?

My RPM's pretty much stay steady idling at the lights. Don't know if they do ethanol blended gas in Panama? I do have ethanol free fuel where I live and I run it in my Z. The gas is more stable without ethanol and the car is much easier to start when cold (you probably don't have cold in Panama).

No ethanol in Panama. Im still trying to figure out how to secure all those taylor wires from the distributor to the spark plugs tight enough thus avoiding any turn signal in the dashboard.

Are you missing these spark plug wire looms / stays that I boxed in green? If so, it's time to start hunting for some, they are normally included with the car.
