emccallum Posted March 29, 2023 Share #1 Posted March 29, 2023 In one of our storage sheds, I found an old 1974 (early) oem exhaust. It has been in the rafters since 1975 or so. My dad bought a new 260 and in short time, swapped the carbs and exhaust. I test fit it and it fits well. I need to source a chrome tip and a couple of hangers. I am thinking of painting the rear exhaust and resonator black, but I cant decide if I should just clean the pipes up as best I can, or hit them with some silver. Or should I keep the header pipe and scrap the rest? I think it would be neat to have an original exhaust, assuming the entire inside isnt completely trashed. Any thoughts? Yarb Posted March 29, 2023 Share #2 Posted March 29, 2023 Have you given it the shake rattle and roll test. Good chance a lot of the internals of the mufflers have come apart.
emccallum Posted March 29, 2023 Author Share #3 Posted March 29, 2023 Yes, it had some debris fall out. If nothing else I can use the system as a template to have a new one built. I will probably give it a try and see what it sounds like.
Yarb Posted March 30, 2023 Share #4 Posted March 30, 2023 Not sure what direction you’re heading with your project, I can tell you that increasing the diameter up to at least 2” makes a difference in performance. These engines like to breathe. Just my 2 cents. I encourage others to chime in.
dutchzcarguy Posted March 30, 2023 Share #5 Posted March 30, 2023 (edited) I know the orig 240z is a Nichira. Is this 260z also from that fabricator? I should say: "Nichira" big on the rear muffler. The orig 240z exhaust didn't have very big diameter and could profit from bigger ones, i don't know but did the 260z have some bigger diameter exhaust pipe? (also is the partnumber different? i do have fiches but no reader present sadly..) Here some pictures from a original 240z exhaust (rear part) last made in 1999! (for as far i know!)
