Need little help. One image attached..It is from inside looking through gear shifter

section marked 2's...is anything to be attached here?

Section marked 1 is where tranny slips in... I am wondering if i leave motor and tranny connected and remove it all at once does it simply simply out of this housing then slip back in when re-attaching?
