Battery arc'd and shorted, is alternator now toast?

Hmm.... well isn't this suspicious? lol ?

I believe this is the ground connection coming off the alternator? Not only was the wire severed, but the insulation was cooked off and pretty crispy! Looks like I have some good leads to go on now. This weekend I'll finally be able to get into it with a meter.
