87 octane fuel

Featured Replies

I actually run 87 octane in CA.

I burn about 15 gallons a week, so I save about $3.00 a week. That is about $150 a year, not a big deal.

Some people insist carb cars should run minimum on 89 or even 91.

When i used 87 octane my stock 240 z would keep running for up to 30 seconds after i turned it off. I think that is called "dieseling". please correct me if i'm wrong. I read on this site somewhere that higher octane could fix the problem, so i switched to 91 and now it is fine. I haven't noticed any performance increases, but it is nice to have the engine stop when i want to get out of the car.

Do you think i could switch back to 87 and not have the dieseling problem?

i have heard that 89 octane is a mixture of 91 and 87. i have no idea if it is true or not.

Dieseling is correct, it can occur from leaky carbs and mine does it with any fuel I use. I have dual DGVs.

When I first got my Z it was dieseling. I think it was Mike that told me to lower my idle, it was at 900!, I droped it to 800 and it diesels no more.

this may be a little bit off the topic, but what are you guys's thoughts on those magnetic "fuel savers" that attach to your fuel line? http://www.moremilespergallon.biz/ i keep getting these junk mails in my email and was just thinking if maybe anyone's tried it or if it works.

I rarely post just for the sake of it (hence my small amount of posts), but that was a classy reply Bambi!!ROFL
