I pulled into burger king and saw smoke coming from battery area.

I raised the hood and noticed the positive side of battery was grounded out on battery holder. I moved the battery enough to stop the ground and short. Now the car will not start.

it will turn over and i have fire to the plugs.

i do not hear the fuel pump running now. is there any other fusible links other than the 2 cap coverd one on the right fender. i have checked those and they seem to be ok.

Don't know what year your car is but my 73 has one, on one of the smaller wires close to the starter.

im sorry not to post it is a 1978

There should be a thick white wire attached directly to the positive post, with a white connector to two green fusible links. Just look at all of the wires connected to the positive post. The wire supplies power to the ECU and the injectors, so if those two links go you'll get no injection.

Another unsecured battery accident. You're lucky its not all up in smoke.

Those things are heavy, bungee cords don't cut it.

78's have another pair of fusible links for the fuel injection on the battery side of the relay bracket right beside the battery.

The fuel injection and fuel pump relays are under that bracket as well. Here's hoping all those fusible links did their job...

The links melt from excess heat. The extra heat conducted down the wire was probably enough to push it over. No reason for excess current to flow through the ECU though so you should be okay. If blown links is the problem.

zKars is right about the location, although the tabs tend to break off and they end up hanging.

thanks zkars. it has the original bracket. but somehow nut was loose and top frame of the battery is what got into the positive post.

if the links are the problem, where do i purchase them or can i use inline fuses and what amperage?

They're available from most of the usual Z car parts places. Educated guesses around the internet put them at about 40 amps.
