emissions fuel check valve

The part he's looking for is a check valve that lets in make-up air as you run the engine, but it won't let fuel vapors out when the tank warms. Part number 38 in the first link. It's not marked as NLA, so it may still be available.

Yeah, #38. That valve lets air move in both directions, but outflow occurs only with a good bit of pressure. I suspect the check valve could be removed, but I wouldn't swear to it. The only possible consequences I would anticipate would be fuel leakage through the bottom of the carbon canister (not likely) and the slow accumulation of water condensation in the gas tank (due to the tank breathing too much). If you drive your car enough to keep your gas fresh, water condensation should be carried away harmlessly with the ethanol. But too much condensation, and you'll have trouble with fuel separation and gunk/goo.

thanks for the info< the car is a 1978 280, i just i,ll keep trying, keeping it all original and do not trust the special check valve i have, tried to put #38 in basket but it didn't recognize part number, going to try calling, thanks again, james
