Hello Guys,

I need some help. I got all the electrical components working except for this center console or dash unit. Photo is attached. This has the three control indicator for the fog, hazard and seat belt. As shown in the picture, I am or my mechanic cannot find where to plug it. I cannot see the harness or wire that it need to be attached. Please send me photos where it is in your cars and where or what I need to do to get it connected. I would at least need photos or instructions what wrires I need to connect it to to get this unit working. I aslo need a wiper motor because I now discovered that mine does not work. I am now on a tight budget and exhausted but I can see the checkered flag ahead. Ohh by the way At this time it is 8:55PM Florida time and the Miami Heat are making matter worst. I turned off the tv.

The female side of the connector should be part of the body wiring harness. The colors of the wires going into that connector will give you a clue about the colors of the wires on the other side.

Let's assume you have a 72 or 73. (It helps to make sure you post the year of your car in your query or put it in your signature.)

Since I don't have time to go down to my car, I'm going to guess that the wire colors are Red, Red/Blue, Black, and Green. It's likely that's the connector for the warning lights. It would normally be identified on page BE-3 of the 73 FSM, but for some reason it did not get broken out like the rest of the connectors.

I do not see any wire harness to connect it with.

If your vehicle is a 70, per your signature, that piece is NOT what you need. You would need the ashtray/cigar lighter opening combination cover.

That's why you can't find the harness/connector, that connector piece is for a later model at least late 72 if not 73 with the Seat Belt Warning interlock system and the Choke Warning light. Neither one of those systems were on the 70 model.

Only if you change the complete dash wiring harness (and the engine bay and rear harness) with all the required relays, sensors etc would that piece be needed.

FWIW

Yes I did. I added the year of the car last night after your reply. I am now at the shop and looking at Arne's picture, I think that I have a different center console. A little bit longer. Thanks for all your help. I will have to look for a 70 center console later on. I thought all 240z center control were the same. The car came with this cneter control and this three indicator unit.

Nope, the '70-71 console was different. Nice originals are hard to find. I believe MSA was offering a fiberglass repro of the console itself at one time. The ashtray/fuse-cover can be hard to find as they are terribly brittle and easily broken.

Ok, Thanks for all the help. Believe me, I will be hunting for a 1970 center console to replace the one I have once it is out of the shop.

I hope I can keep this other subject here since I mentioned it earlier; there is a wiper motor on Ebay, that the seller advised came out a 1972 240z. Will it work on a 1970? He said it was working when removed. I do not know how much a new one will cost at this time. It is on Ebay at $75.

The earlier wiper motors had 5 wire connectors in the 2x3 power connector, they did not have the intermittent wiper control. When they added the Intermittent control the 6th wire connector comes into the picture. That's one way of determining a wiper motor from an unknown manufacturing year.

As you try to figure out whether or not parts will work, look at the link in my signature for the Datsun Parts Manual. It can help you get a quick answer on parts compatibility.
