Im trying the get into a Z as a project car. There is this car for sell locally and the owner advertise it as a 1980 280z with T-top.

As far as i know (google search), there is no 280z after 1978.

I called him and make sure that the car is a 280z not a 280zx. And he replied that it is a 280z.

So is there a 1980 280z with T-top?

You are correct, 78 was the last year of the 280z. Maybe it is a 280z with a after market sunroof. 79 thru 83 were known as 280zx.

No but there is a 1980 280ZX with a T-top.

If you really need to be convinced go take a look at the sticker on the door jam. It will tell you build month and year. Also as SBLAKE01 so eloquently stated it is a ZX and not a Z, but no need to get hung up on technicalities just go take a look.

Actually there was a 1980 280Z. In Japan the 280ZX was called the Fairlady 280Z. This one is a 1980 2+2 with no T-tops, but of course they also made the 2 seat version with and without T-tops.

I had all of those wheels on my 280Z at one time or another. Swastikas, Iron Crosses, Turbo wheels, and I finally put the so called Black Pearl wheels back on it.

Our ZXs were called 280Zs in Australia also.

I just need to make sure, because the owner kept insisting that the car is a 280z with T-top. Here is the picture that the owner provided.

my 20/20 vision can see that the dash in the car is the 280zx dash. am i wrong on this? Would the tittle have the car model?

Definately ZX. In NZ that is. Check parts availability before buying this car.
