The '78 280Z came with a steering column cover that was twist wrapped because the screw holes were stripped out. I was able to find one on eBay and replaced it last night. I also found a new rearview mirror that was not all eaten up like the current one, but I haven't figured out how to mount it yet (haven't tried yet). The new weatherstripping goes on this week , along with some other new rubber bumpers, etc. It's coming along, but no new seats till I know it doesn't leak. The new struts and bushings are coming in this week as well .

I know this sounds silly, but when your screw holes are stripped out of the plastic shove a broken off tooth pick into the hole. When you screw back into, it will give the screw something to bite against while wedging itself into the plastic. Though I suppose it is a bit late to tell you that

Your mirror should yank out. And bunch of good thumps to the mounting plate will get the new one in.

The mirror can seem like you're going to break it snapping it back into place. I recall using a pair of channel lock pliers to squeeze the metal spring assembly at the base of the mirror to make it not such a tight fit before thumping the mounting plate as mentioned above.

I searched for the column cover as mine was cracked and a couple mount points were broken. Every one I found was over $100. I finally found one for a 240 (smaller than the 280 cover) on Ebay for $25 bucks, looked like new. I tried the toothpick trick but it was to far gone to save. The P.O(S) had used duct tape as a remedy, it worked okay but the replacement is much nicer.

There are repair methods that have worked on those pieces.

I've also effected those repairs for folks.

ya I got the smaller one from the junkyard but I would like to put the original one back in someday I am just missing the lower part.
