Stock 71 240z needs tires, pics please

I'm running the same wheels and like the way the Michelin Energy MXV4's ride. Great traction. Little road noise, and they sit a little wider, giving the car a solid look.

Ok... so I bought a set of relatively cheap Cooper Response Touring tires at Sears in 195/70R14. They have a plain retro look to them.

My question related to the slotted wheels: I need lug nuts and I need center caps....

I have a few lugs that fit but I'm having trouble sourcing replacements. Is there an online source that stocks a multitude of lugs so I can find what I need?

Center caps... I just want something simple. Retro cool would be great but I don't want to spend a ton of time or money on these...

any help would be appreciated...

My '70 is currently shod w/Yoko 195/60-14 on 39 year-old 6" Fentons. Tire diameter is 22.5 inches.

Since installing the R200 w/3.90 gearing, I notice that at indicated legal speeds, I'm getting passed like I'm chained to a post. My shop said the speedo gear I had w/the old 3.36 should be "real close." I'm beginning to think otherwise, but need an excuse to upgrade to 15 or 16" wheels, hence my question...

What is the OEM tire diameter for this car?

Of course you can change the driven gear on your speedo cable at the tranny end. Figure out how much you ar off now %wise and check the other gears available. Count the teeth etc....... you get the picture.

ALMOST ready to run down the road with it for the first time!

Did the hoses, master/slave clutch cyls, fuel lines, vac lines, rear shoes...

Just today I finished up with refreshing the front suspension: ball joints, rotors, tie rods, sway bar bushings... I just added new brake pads and have found that indeed the calipers need to be replaced... I think I'm going to just do the Toyota caliper upgrade while I'm at it...

New tires too...

Mark, I bought some nice lug nuts at Pep Boys for 2 of my 240Zs with the slotted mags. They are made by Rally -model #90145 and are 12 mm x 1.25 and come in sets of four. The center caps and the 'Z' stickers that go on them can be purchased from MSA.

So what exactly are these wheels called or referred as? I have them on my car and am curious. Plus, what's with all the white spots on the wheels? I see that there are other members with the same issue. Is that something common with these wheels?

Oxidation I presume...? Same as happens on an old, unpainted aluminum screen door.

I've often heard them referred to as "5 slot", or simply "slots".

Anyone know what size tires these would be with modern sizes. They say 185 sr 14. Im thinking 185/75R/14 but not sure. I wouldnt mind getting a little wider tire on my stock steel wheels but I want to keep all the height. So reading Arnes post Im thinking 195/70R/14. Will that be the same height but just a little wider? I dont care as much about the width as I do about how tall they are. These fill the wheel wells perfectly. Thanks.

Hi Brian.

The original Bridgestone spare that I have is a 175 HR 14. 195/70 14 is very close to the same height. I'm attaching several photos. One compares the height of the two tires (with the 175 HR 14 being just slightly taller). The other two just show the tire sizes. My 195/70 14 is a Sumitomo HTR H4 mounted on a 14 x 6 Libre, the Bridgestone is mounted on a stock steel wheel. For what it's worth, if you do search on Tire Rack for a 1971 Datsun 240Z specifies 195/70 14 as original equipment size.

Thanks Gary. Just ordered 195/70r/14's. My car is lowered a bit and I love how the wheels tuck under the fenders. Hopefully will have this thing back on road in a month or so(That pic is of my 1st z...which we wont talk about).
