Under Door Exhaust on a 280z

Featured Replies

I've been kicking around the thought of getting some monza headers for my 280, and since my exhaust would be in pieces, how about moving the exhaust under the doors? Perhaps like that on the Cobras. How would this look on a z? I've never seen it done before. Any ideas?

I think it looks kinda dorky. Their is a video on youtube but i cant find it. One thing to consider i the burnt legs you get from climbing out of the car...

There are a couple of cars with that type of exhaust pictured in the galleries here.

It would probably look a little something like this:

I put sidepipes on my first Z, a black 280Z with wire wheels, louvers, and the wing that MSA called their "California Wing" in the late '80s. Mine weren't as nicely done as the pic Mr Camouflage references. I liked them, but you better wear some Nomex socks :-) I have 1 picture left of that car somewhere, but I don't know where it is :(

That car also had no badges and I was always being asked by people who didn't recognize a Z if it was a Corvette or a Ferrari(!). I guess those people were really fixated on the wire wheels and sidepipes ;)

30 yrs later, I've still got a small scar on my leg from stepping out of a customized van w/sidepipes. I imagine the heat in the summer would get pretty bad too.
