Blacked out chrome trim

Featured Replies

Is there any pictures of a Z that has had the chrome trim blacked out? I've always hated chrome. To me it just looks cheesy. What I'd like to do is paint the trim flat black and only leave the bumpers chrome.

Not blacked out but "redded" out. PO painted everything red...not my cup of tea and will be fixed, but here are a couple of shots for you.

Strange...photos are coming up as links...

Only the bumpers are chrome. Everything else is stainless steel. You'd need to key it (roughen it up) to paint to stick. Best best would be to get it powder coated if you want it to last.

to have continued success with painted chrome, you need to sand the chrome. It is best if you make it to the nickel layer beneath. Then prime with epoxy followed by your color coat. I have had real good luck with this procedure for many years.

they make a black tape that is designed to stick to "chrome" trim. it's on ebay all the time.

I painted mine about 20yrs ago and it is still on. I used something called Trim Black, it think it is still available. It is a self etching paint and covered well and has never peeled. Unfortunatley, I would like to get it off now and put the car back closer to its original appearance.
