I feel kind of funny asking you guys this not knowing what I have here, but I was looking through my parts box and came across this part that we bought at Napa a few years ago and apparently haven't installed it yet. I showed it to my dad and he didn't remember what it was either. I tried looking the through the shop manual and couldn't come up with anything. Any way, here is a picture of it and would love to know what this is! Thanks. -Austen.

I don't think so. I think its a PCV valve. Looks exactly like the valves on both my '71s, and also the '83 ZX motor I had too. Should be a big hose (3/4-1" diameter) leading from the breather tube on the driver's side front of the block (under the thermostat housing) going up to the intake manifold somewhere. The PCV valve screws into the manifold and the hose attaches to it.

2nd on the PCV valve. EFI cars it is on the underside of the intake manifold, on carbed cars it goes on the balance tube.

Third on the PCV valve.

Thanks for the help guys, that helps a lot. What exactly does the PCV valve do? Correct me if I'm wrong, but it has something to do with emissions?

positive crankcase ventilation. without it you would blow gaskets and seals.

Thank you for the diagram that does help me to understand what it does. Does anybody by chance have a good picture of where it is on the engine. I seem to be over looking it some how from looking at the diagrams. Thanks again.

In case you have the hose in its place, you will see a hose a hose from the left side of the engine under the intake, coming from a pipe STABED into the block:) and going up to the bottom of the intake, you can not see it by eyes, you'll need a mirror or by touching you can find it..

btw, if the hose is not there and openings not plugged, that will cause you a big vacume leak and getting much dirt in your engine oil.

go open the bonnet and put your hand under the intake.. make sure that it is cold so you wont harm your hand from the heat of the exhaust.
