Posted July 19, 200618 yr comment_175149 Has anyone tried to replace the rubber squeegy on the exterior window ss trim on an s30 door. I've seen that you can just buy the rubber instead of the whole trim piece but have never heard of any success stories of installing new rubber. I am curious as to how the staples are used or reused to put the new squeegy on. I want to powder coat the ss trim black and need to remove the squeegy. I don't want to screw up a new 150$ set if I can repair the old . Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/20864-window-ss-trim-squeegy/ Share on other sites
July 19, 200618 yr comment_175152 I bought a cheap set of replacement trim/squeegy (I think from VB) because my original rubber was cracking. I was unhappy with the quality and shape of the thin metal so I decided to remove the rubber from the new units and place it on the old which I polished up. The original staples are very heavy duty and difficult to work with. I simply ground them off from the inside with my dremel tool. I then used a strong weatherstrip adhesive to glue the rubber back on. So far so good. July 19, 200618 yr comment_175155 I did a set ten years ago, and used a weatherstrip from JCwhitney. I held it to the trim piece by imitating the way hog rings are used in upholsery. I used the two stainless steel strips used to make a windshield wiper retainer(the part that slides in the guides on the wiper arm), and strung stainless nut retaining wire through the original staple holes in the trim and around the wiper retainer piece. It was still holding strong when I sold the car last year. The weatherstrip sealed well, but was different from stock in its profile-it did seem to be a more stable material than the rubber used in the original piece.WillI just read this, and found it confusing, I will try to round up the materials if it is of any interest and show what I tried to say-no sleep last night, and horrible ISP problems-I do appologize.
