Is this OEM or aftermarket upholstery?

Featured Replies

I have been under the assumption that the shock towers on the Z came with the diamond upholstery pattern on them. Yet, in the '72 car pictured in the photo (purported to be highly original) there is no such pattern. Is this OEM or aftermarket?

Thanks, Gary S.

Looks like a leather reupolster to me, because I've got a '72 and its got the diamond cut.

Yep - not original at all - 72's had the diamond-pattern vinyl on the shock towers, trans tunnel, and front edge of the luggage deck.

BTW - the luggage deck carpet is not original either and the luggage straps are rigged wrong ...

Thanks for your responses. Yeah Goose, I thought the nap of the carpet looked different than my '71, as well as what looks like a bound vinyl edge. Sounds like the seller's got some 'splainin' ta do!

I'd rather have a baremetal interior over that leather though, but then again, I'm weird, haha.

I think the non-diamond vinyl was introduced later in the Z's life say 74 260z and 280z onwards. As far as I'm aware the early 240z featured the diamond pattern. Quite a few suppliers have the non diamond pattern I see them on ebay too. However people rarely bid on them.

gav240z I have a 260z and the strut covers were regular and the tunnel and the wall at the bins were diamond texured go figure.
