Posted July 13, 200519 yr comment_130560 Hello Everyone, Well, I finally, after much research on this site, decided the exhaust system I will be running on my 280Z. The set-up:2.25" exhaust tubing18" Summit glasspack as a resonatordynomax utra flo oval mufflerhttp://www.dynomax.com/ultrafloweld.stm stock manifold(my engine is stock BTW)I chose this system because I want my car to be :devious: loud :devious: but not send my neighbors scrambling for their shotguns when I go to work in the morning, or cause my car to sound like a rice rocket. My question is this; will this set-up provide enough backpressure for a stock engine??? The reason I ask this is because while the dynomax I will be using is an oval style muffler its in reality a fancy looking glasspack (so far as I can tell, check out the link to see what I mean) and I dont want to lose a lot of midrange torque from this system. SEAN240Z are you out there??? I think you have a very similar system.BTW any opinions on this system in general are also welcome (volume, tone resonance, etc.)Thanks!!!!! :classic: Derek Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16559-too-little-backpressure/ Share on other sites
July 14, 200519 yr comment_130610 Too LITTLE back pressure? Can you have too little? Oh, I suppose that if you have F.I. you have to have enought pressure to make the O2 sensor work or the car will run rich won't it? But I would think that the converter will take care of that. ;-)Otherwise, so long as your exaust system is long enought to keep it from drawing cold air into the head when you shut it off, why would you need back pressure? July 14, 200519 yr comment_130626 backpressure is another one of the misconceptions of the performance of cars. you don't want backpressure (despite what supertrap might say) you want exhaust velocity.with the stock manifold, you shouldn't have to worry about too much flow Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16559-too-little-backpressure/#findComment-130626 Share on other sites

Thanks!!!!! :classic: Derek Derek , you should be spot on. You should have great low in torque , at least what these little engines can provide. If you were after only top end performance then I would say go for Headers and 2 1/2'' . I have consulted a few people I know ,that are in the business of building race and performance Z engines and this is the setup you have that is recommended. Bigger isn't always better . July 14, 200519 yr comment_130677 resurected, how much does that dynomax ultra flo run? Looks like it might be expensive, looks like a real good solution for a Zed. Let us know. July 14, 200519 yr Author comment_130686 These are $70 from Summit Racing. Not cheap I know but I researched these mufflers on both this site and the L6 forums on the HybridZ site and everyone that had them seemed to like them a lot, unlike the dynomax super turbo and the flowmaster 40 series which both seem to get mixed reviews.
