what is the clonk coming from my 240

Featured Replies

I have a just bought a 240z (71) with a 260 engine. when letting out the clutch there is a 'clonk' sound so i gathered its either the u,v joints or diff mount rubbers, or even moustach bar mounts, am i on the right tracks? I am trying to replace the u.v joints right now but they are giving me ahard time, does any one have any reccomendations?

My suggestion is to start with examinig the easiest parts to replace (and the most likely to cause the problem) in this case, that would be the Front Diff mount, then the U-Joints, then the Moustache Bar bushings.

Examine parts first, then replace. No use throwing parts at a problem, find the cause, then replace.

I get the same "clonk" in my 70 240Z. I'm interested in knowing what you find out.

u-joint. Same thing in my 260. I checked out the u joints and they're crap. Just for good measure I took the car to a good friend of mine- a Japanese-only mechanic. I told me I was right and checked em out. My 2 cents.
