2+2 struts

Featured Replies

OK...another dumb question perhaps but is the rear strut housings fom a 2+2 the same as the non 2+2? I bought a set from a 2+2 to rebuild and now I'm hoping I didnt screw up! Anyone know?

Thanks!

Aaron

MSA lists different part numbers in the catalog for 2+2. I don't know what the difference really is, however.

IIRC, the difference would be that they are set up for a heavier car. At least, that is what I was told. They'd bolt up but they would probably make a non 2+2 sit higher.

They will fit, but like I said, it would be like putting station wagon springs on a coupe.

The front pair I bought had the late model larger diameter strut tube. They were converted to coilovers, so the type of the bits removed is unknown; and then went on the '77 coupe no problems.

Thanks guys.

sbliake01, I will be using the original springs so that should cure that problem..right?

The wrecking yard where I bought them swears they are the same. They looked it up in their "book" Whatever that means!

Thanks again!

The tops are longer, the bottom perch is in a different position and they have more travell. they are about and inch to 1 1/2" longer that the 2 seater. If you put them on the 2 seater you will end up with the "Rally look". If you put shorter springs on them you risk bottoming out the struts and unseating the springs.

Why not rebuild the 2 seater struts? stick the 2+2's temporarily while you get the original struts fixed if you have to.

Thanks guys.

I guess I should have been clearer. First of all, the book is wrong, they are not the same. When I said they'll fit I should have said that they'll bolt onto the car. Mr. Camouflage nicely clears up the rest of what I was trying to imply.
