I was thinking about doing something similar but I wasn't sure what it would look like... you have any pics of a car that has had something similar done?

I really like the classic look, but if the cost is less, ill have to customie it somehow.

Thanks

I think you can get away with it as and still have it look classic.

check out my gallery http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=1316

Look for George's 240z Red color with the chev V8.

sorry i haven't got any more rear shots of the car but look in george's gallery.

It's probably the best smoothing job I've seen :)

I love the new look, but the bad part is that the sheet metal i have is basicly worthless... I'd at least need a template to work off of (or am i just over looking something obvious?)

I was thinking about just having them weld in a few braces (across the back and down the center to make it solid and allow the hatch to close and seal) and then just fiberglass the rest to something custom (close to what you had suggested) does this even sound like a good idea or just dumb? I don't really have much (if any) experience with fiberglass.

I'd personally wanna fabricate most of it using metal. Someone good with metal work should be able to shape the area much like the above pics. However if it's too much hassle you might be better off going to a wrecker and getting them to cut the section out for a template or replacement.

If its going to be a modified car you could integrate some sort of difuser panel into this area.

1) It could be functional

2) It would conceal imperfections as opposed to a large smooth area

3) It could be made as a bolt on, I do not mind ABS plastic or fibreglass as add ons, but not moulded into the body itself.

google showed me these:
