Replacement Fenders?

tah

Recommended Posts

Just took the front fenders off my 72 and would like to find the body man who touched these last. Horrible workmanship. Anyway I'm looking at replacing these and have gotten differing opinions.

MSA and VB both sell replacements ($100 price difference!!). Several others sell "patch" bottom pieces. I was leaning towards complete panels to eliminate any underside rust that's growing on the old fenders.

However, some have said the VB and MSA replacements are a poor fit. They lean towards letting an above average body shop doing the patch work.

Any experience with this dilemna here?

Try finding a junk yard in your area. Getting a replacement from a donor car would be a lot cheaper. Where are you located? Maybe there is a member in your area that has a parts car that he's willing to sell the fenders from.

As Ed stated, have you tried East Coast Z in Chesapeake? It's only a short drive away from you, cost may increase if he has to take them off. I estimate 40% of his cars on site are first gens...

Call ahead for hours, not sure if he is open on the weekends.

PM me for more specific directions and information.

The chances of a Z showing up at U-wrench-it are pretty slim, although I have seen 4 or 5 total since they opened a while back.

I went all out and replace my fenders with Nissan 280Z fenders. Call me crazy. They cost twice what aftermarket one cost, but I was told that aftermarkets usually fit horribly and you spend the remaining money in the body shop fixing them. Do buy used stuff that has rust on it.
