Well it wasnt me atleast.

Mom had her saturn today and poored atomatic trans fluid in the engine. Im no mechanic as far as fluids go. Can sombody say wether or not it will mess the engine up. Thanks.

Bill, if you haven't noticed any signs of damage, just drain the oil, change the filter, and refill it with the correct oil. I used to run ATF in the transmission of my motorcycles because I read somewhere that it makes them shift smoother. Not that that applies to your engine story.

Bill, your Mom won't have any problems, ATF is in actuallity 20wt oil with alot of detergents. If anything her engine will get a good cleaning :classic: .

Following that school of thought, would it be a bad idea to pour a little ATF in with one's next oil change to give things a good scrubbing?

Don't know if anyone has done this but years ago I would put a quart of Marvel Mystery oil in the crankcase and run for about 100 miles before I changed oil. It use to clean all the gunk and mung from the engine and inside valve cover. Don't know if this acceptable in today's engines but it worked in my "74 Olds Omega

:ermm: :ermm: This was way before my Z days.

Even though it sounds like a good idea to clean your engine, you have to be careful. If your engine has alot of deposits from using cheap oils then you might have alot of build up. Then using a high detergent oil will break free these deposits. Then you have pieces of crud flowing around your engine taking a chance of siezing your oil pump or cloging oil passages.
