VA won't allow you to "sell" a car for a dollar, guess they got tired of not getting their little bit of sales tax, or at least that's the way it used to be.

Will, I may be buying a GA car without a title, let's hope that VA will let me get one with just a bill of sale. We can't sell a car without a title, no matter how old it is, it's gotta have a title.

2ManyZs that is strange, I sold a 1983 280ZX 2+2 last year to a man in Virginia using a bill of sale, and I know for a fact he got a Virginia title for the car!

I'll try to get ahold of him, find out what he did, and let you know.

What I meant was, a car sold in VA must have a title to be sold or re-registered, I've never tried to get one with just a bill of sale so I don't know if they will give me any grief or not. Hope not, but then, it isn't really important anyways since the car won't be driven on the street anyways.:cheeky:

So did anyone ever figure out what to do? I'm in the same situation as y'all. I'm buying a 1973 240Z from a guy in North Carolina. The car doesn't have a title, which, as far as I know, is required for registration and a tag. I live in Georgia and plan to drive this daily, and am totally unsure of what to do.

A friend of mine, who's father is a lawyer, bought a 1975 Porsche 914 without a title. Instead, he used a Bill of Sale for registration and a tag, if I remember correctly. Does anyone know if the DMV will accept a Bill of Sale for registration, a tag, and obtaining a title?

I'm not surprised that a government "service" is so confusing. My father is supposed to have talked to the people at the DMV today, so I will know later tonight. I'll post whatever I know at the first chance I get.

A bill of sale is all the Georgia DMV requires on a cat that old. You will be legal and fine with that.

Thanks for the info! This morning, my dad told me pretty much the same thing, and that a title isn't required. I just can't sell the car....not that I ever will. 4 days until I finally get my Z. YEAH! :classic:
