i was working on my front carb today, because of a problem with the float sticking, so fuel came out of the jet in a steady stream. i got that working again, but now i think that the carbs were adjusted to work with the other one, which was way off. if there's any way to do this without money, i would be very happy, but if i need to shell out cash, i'm willing.

Ok i know this is a question straight out of newb central but it's been on my mind for a while and you are the guys to answer it. When i fire up my 240 i notice that the lights although bright are dim compaired to when i rev the engine up. Also the wipers are slow until i hit the gas. Now i know that the faster the engine turns the more power the alternator puts out, but why do i not get the same power at idle. My other cars (30 yrs younger) have no disparity in power from idle to higher rpm's. Is this common with early Z's or do i have a slight problem that needs to be addressed. The alternator is brand new and so is the coil.

Last week I took off the steering wheel on my 240 and repainted it. All went well, or so I thought. Being the newb I am, I must have done something wrong putting it back on. I've tried several times to fix it. The problem is the horn sounds when it turns past a certain position, in both directions. Needless to say I've been driving around with the horn fuse pulled, but I don't want to drive w/o a horn. Also, it clicks terribly when I turn it and seems to get hung up on something. The spring between the wheel and the column is getting caught up in the mechanism in the column and it's actually bending. Not good. How do I get the spring set properly, and how do I get the ho…

'73 with manual transmission. Battery died when I accidentally left the accessories on. Recharged the battery, starter motor cranks, but will not start. Got a new battery (was going to get one anyway) and replaced the spark plugs (needed to anyway). Checked for spark against the block...no luck. Checked the coil-distributor wire for spark...no luck. Suspected it was a bad coil. Got a new coil and resistor but still got no spark. Turns out the coil itself isn't getting any power. Did some caveman wiring diagram interpretation...looks like one wire essentially goes from the ignition to the coil via the tach. Checked that wire and it is supplying power from the ign…

Yes that's right... my car wouldn't pass NY safety inspection this morning because my headlights turn off when the turn signal comes on . Has anyone experienced this before? I'm guessing it may be the turn signal/high beam stalk switch because the turn signals don't always work unless it's in the right position... plus the stalk is kind of "mushy" feeling ...

My parts car (which is for sale) and my extra doors apear to match, yet I was told years ago that there was a difference. I have someone who wants to buy them and I am not sure. Thanks, early240z@yahoo.com

I need someone with a good running stock carb setup from a '73 to give me a hand. My idle limiter cap was removed when the previous owner had the carbs maladjusted. Could someone please tell me how many turns from seated it should be? I want to tune the carbs but There is no mention in the service manual as to where it should be set when someone has messed with it. -Dale-

I am looking at buying a 76-78 280z in the Portland area. What knowledgeable service garages are there to help inspect and do initial service on my prospective purchase??? I really need a name and phone # for someone who really knows Z Cars and can help me to identify any serious problems before I buy. Also, is there a Z Club in Portland? Thx

My '75 280Z has a gas tank that has been hit on something, almost looks like you rolled up under it feet facing the engine and punched straight up. As a result the float goes to the 1/8 tank spot and stops. Not too bad except I am ertain that I am missing a gallon capacity, and I can easily run out of gas once it gets to 1/8 tank. Any suggestions? Can I remove the tank and repair or would I be best to shop for another?

Does anyone know how much torque i should put. i am using a 10 mm socket to it, so i am thinking it should not be more than 15lbs. thanks, hf
