Forgive me father for I have sinned.
Another option you may consider is to paint it another "original" Z color. There were 10 or so colors available in '76 so there may be one that suits you. It's not keeping your car original but it's closer to it than painting in Camry Beige or VIper Yellow or whatever. The trick may be choosing one that goes with your interior - if it's black that's not much of a problem. Anyway that's the route I plan to take with my Z someday - going from 901 Silver to 113 Green Metallic most likely. My page may help a little: http://www.utdallas.edu/~perdue/paintcodes.html Sorry I dont have the application dates listed yet - been busy lately. michael

S12W and Wheel Spacer?
Just to clarify, the calipers used with stock rotors are marked "S12-8", not simply "S12". The others are "S12W". Michael

Anyone have an orange 280?
Well so far I've seen a couple of '78's, a '74, and now a '76, so most likely 110 was used throughout production after '70. Thanks for the additional info. Now I'm wondering, was this Z a 110 or 918? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6187&item=2472321990 It sure looks 918 orange to me but it could be 110 for all I know. So far I don't have any evidence that 918 was used after '73 so that's another one to look out for. Michael

Anyone have an orange 280?
I've contacted the owner and this one is 110 Red and one of the last US 280Z's built. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2482186302 So it looks like 110 was probably used from '71 (when 905 red was stopped) through the end of the S30 Z's as Proxlamus' z would also suggest. Looks like the zhome list and my page need updates! Michael

Beware of George G. Robbins (aka: reddat)!!!
Do your duty and leave negative feedback. Right now he's got 99.4% positive feedback - those are good odds so I'd still buy from him. Also the couple of neutrals I saw were regarding shipping costs. He doesn't list the shipping cost on the auction - big red flag to check before bidding...

Back Disc Brakes
That link to modern motersports is fine and dandy but you could do a similar upgrade with nissan parts for less money. You'll find the most detailed info by searching this site but to sum it up you need a set of rear caliper brackets from a Nissan Maxima and 2 different sets of calipers will work. Choose from the 240SX setup or 280ZX setup. Probably searching the site for "maxima bracket" will give you all the info you need.

vented or non vented toyota caliper ?
I think Z-point answered your question. Otherwise you'd be using a set of calipers in a way they weren't intended. Not too smart with brakes. But hey if you want to be the first to try it go for it. If you survive let us know how it worked out!

I think Oz is the only place in the world where you'll find a city with a wacky name like "Toowoomba"- Calling On ALL Zers for Help!!
Or the post could at least start with "OT" (Off Topic). This post offers no warning in the title that it's an OT post about animal rescue. In general I hate ambiguous titles that are intended to get everyone to read the post just to see what it says. Considering this one has "ALL" in caps it probably falls under that catagory...- 72 240z with JTR mounted 355 chevy v8 FOR SALE 4.2k

I think Carl was saying start with a turbo engine and pull off all the turbo parts and use SU's - so that if you wanted to you could go back to the turbo setup easily.- Rare custom SU intake
some people refer to steel as "metal". i don't think he meant to imply (and he didn't claim it for sure) that brass isn't a metal. just a bit of slang that seems to have thrown you all off- great history site

did any of you receive a hi-res copy of this paint chip page? if so i'd like a copy. please pm or email me. thanks, michael- please comment
Hi Alan, Thanks for the additional info!! I hope I'm not going to get in over my head as I attempt to expand this list. I started with the US codes because it was fairly easy to steal them from zhome , but from all of the reading I've done on this site I know that things really get complicated as you start looking at the full production history. One question about the touch-up paint scan you posted. Should those apply to all RHD export markets (which I assume means GB and Oz/NZ) - and not necessarily apply to the domestic market (Japan)? Also I just took a second look at the application note - so I suppose the ones listed as "From 9/71" apply to the end of the 240Z production ('73 model), right? Thanks again for the info and scans!! Looks like I've got a little more work to do. michael ps - I copied the new page over the old one so they should look the same now. from now I'll only update the original page http://www.datsunprojects.org/zpaintcodes (and I'll probably remove the other one sometime)- please comment
thanks for the comments. it's starting to fill out now. i thnk the page with the chips really looks a lot better because you can still see some sort of color even if there isn't a car pic yet.- please comment
i've just updated my paint code page with scanned chips from the PPG catalogs. what do you guys think? here's the new one http://www.datsunprojects.org/zpaintcodes and the old one http://www.datsunprojects.org/zpaintcodes obviously i haven't finished the 260-280Z parts yet, but it should end up looking like the 240z part someday. also if anyone has info on either domestic or colors imported to other areas besides the US i would love to have it and incorporate it into the page. for example I know the g-nose models had unique colors etc. also does anyone think I should add all available data to the page such as dates when the colors started and stopped? this data is on zhome.com but it could be added here thanks michael - 260Z for Sale
