240Z Suspension Progress
Looks great 240ztt. You did the same thing I did to mine except instead of the camber plates I used MSA's adjustable strut insulators. ANyway keep us updated. Michael

'73 in Dallas
Hey Sulla, Not sure about bidding. I think you just have to go on the day of the auction, register and bid. I think they only take cash. You probably have to pay something up front to show that you really have money to bid but it's probably refundable if you don't win anything. As for the title, I really don't know. The lady I talked to referred to it as salvage but that doesn't necessarily mean the title reflects that. It may just mean that it doesn't run so they can put it in the normal auctions. Good luck Michael

'73 in Dallas
Found yet another Z in the Dallas Can! Acadamy auction lot today. This one will be salvaged. The engine is partially disassembled - but there's a set of round top 4-bolt carbs + manifold in the hatch. Dash is all torn up but lots of parts are there. Rust doesn't look too bad. The battery tray looked complete but I didn't start poking around. Underside shows signs of rust as usual but I didn' see holes. Last registered/inspected in '99. Brown with iron cross wheels, 4-speed, black interior, nifty light brown "240Z" stripes on the sides. I've got more pics if anyone is interested post here adn I'll post a few more. It's set to be auctioned this wendesday I think, starting at $50 because it's a salvage vehicle. Damn I almost tossed the carbs over the fence but I guess I'm too honest for that. Well anyway hopefully someone can save at least the parts from the crusher!!! I sure wish I could but my wife would absolutely slaughter me... BTW these cars are donated for auction and all proceeds goes to the DCA youth charity fund. I'm not exactly sure what they do but it's probably a good cause. This is the same lot where I saw that really solid gold 280Z a year or so ago. I see lots of Z's there for some reason. Michael

triple SUs
Oh and one more thing maybe a little more applicable to the discussion. I found this chart while doing my own research for a SU setup on my 210 (still working on that by the way). Anyway, this could be helpful. The 240Z carbs are 1-3/4". According to this triples would work best on 2L-4L - which fits the Z engines nicely. I got that here: clicky

triple SUs
Another triple setup for you guys! (I have no clue if this is real or not! My guess is not....) And anyway, there are probably more than 3 - maybe 6? Michael

Getting the Rear Defroster working
Zspecialties.com sells a heater/fan that mounts in the corner of the window. But to work your original circuit has to be working to power it. defroster fan

OT: Honey Bee to be hacked on Monster Garage
Here are a few shots I pulled from the show. Turns out the white Cherry HB that sold on Ebay is Jesse's personal car. I don't know where the yellow one came from. They didn't use any of the 350Z's suspension because it was too wide. The front is from the HB and the rear came from a datsun pick-up. I guess over all it was pretty cool though I would have rather seen it done right - not a hack job like the MG guys do all the time. michael

want toyota brake calipers!
Have you looked a rockauto.com? Last time I checked they had them remanufactured for a decent price. Too bad Zmefly is gone - we was supplying sets for a reasonable price too. Are you looking for the S12W's or the S12-8's (vented or stock rotor)?

Hitachi "SU" part numbers
Thanks Bruce, I've sent you a PM. Oh and just to put a little bit of Z content back into this thread, I found some nice ram pipes that will work on the Z carbs. aptfast.com is a site for British cars but since the HS6 SU's are equivalent to the Hitachi SU's many of the parts there will interchange. Here's a pic of the HS6 Ram pipes at $32 each or so. They also have several filters available.

Hitachi "SU" part numbers
Thanks Victor. I haven't seen any 510's with 46's but I was wondering if they went to the larger ones later. Looks like they didn't. Bruce, do you know if Ztherapy has an A series dual "SU" manifold? There are 2 different ones - I need the later one with the oval head ports. It should be for 38mm carbs. Also there is a "cross-flow" manifold made by Lynx in Australia but I'm having trouble getting info on that (mainly the shape of the head ports). It's designed to fit HS4 SU's which are used on Mini's, MGs and other British cars. But I think the bolt pattern is the same for the 38mm Hitachi SUs but I'm not sure yet - still looking for info on that. I know the HS4's have 2 bolts per carb, 3" centers at 45 degrees. Does that sound like a Hitachi 38mm bolt pattern? Thanks for the help Michael

Hardest bolt or nut to get to?
Worse for me are the bolts that attach the front fenders to the chassis down at the bottom near the doors. They're not hard to reach but they're always rusted through and snap off. Removing the broken off screw is the really hard part because it's very close to the floor and you have to work upside down. Implementing Escanlon's drainage system shoudl fix that though.

Hitachi "SU" part numbers
Well I may have found what I really needed. There were 2 different sized Hitachi "SU" carbs - 1.5" bore and 1.75". The 1.75" (or 46mm) carbs were used on the 2.0L Roadster and the 240Zs. The 1.5" (38mm) bore ones were used on early Roadsters, 510's, and the 1200GX which is the one I'm interested in. So basically the Z carbs I have won't bolt right up to the manifold I was hoping to use them with because the manifold bore is smaller. There are other differences betweem models that i haven't quite figured out yet. Also the size comes right out of the part number: HJG46W is 46mm etc. I'm still not 100% whether or not the later 510s moved to the 46mm bore later. Anyone know of any other Datsuns that used Hitachi "SU"s? Michael

I don't care what anyone else says, that color looks awesome on a Z IMO. I should have never given away my yellow rust-bucket '73.
