Cloth seat inserts
Roger, I have already been doing some work tonight. The ends of the Mazda seats where they bolt onto the floor mount have a slight downward bend and have to be straightened. There are also two locating pins on each seat that have to be cut off. The mounting holes front to rear on the Z seat are about 320mm apart whilst on the Mazda seats they are about 410mm apart. I plan on using a piece of flat steel which I will bolt to the Z floor mounts on each side and extend past the rear mount. I will bolt the front lugs of the Mazda seats in the normal Z seat position and bolt the rear ones to the end of the steel using high tensile bolts. As you can see from this previous thread ( by someone from Adelaide), the seats are virtually identical in size. And yes mine do have speakers in the head rest, which will save me trying to fit them elsewhere in the car. http://www.240z.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1334&highlight=miata+seats Cheers Geoff

Cloth seat inserts
Halz and Steve, I have some seats from a 71 240 that I used to have and they are black vinyl with a cloth (sort of like velour) insert in the seat and back. My seats in my 74 260 are straight vinyl. As a matter of fact I been out today and bought a pair of Mazda MX5 (Miata) seats to replace my originals which were a bit tatty. I had intended to have them recovered which was going to cost about $400 the pair, however I picked up the Mazda seats for $285, which was too good to pass up. Should have them in tomorrow as the front mounts are the exact same width as the Z seats. Cheers, Geoff

zender turbo convertion kit on a 260z
Hey Ben, This is unrelated to your question re Z cars, but seeing that you are from Montpellier, do you ever go to Sommiers?. I spent some time there in the 70's and used to hang out at the Moto Club Sommierois at the cafe Du Nord near the river. It was a great time and there were some terrific people there! I'm sorry that this does not relate to your original query, its just that when I saw where you were from it bought back fond memories. Cheers, Geoff

Skyline boxes in a 240z
Is there any form of ID on the exterior of the box as to whether it is an A or a B box. In the manual for my 74 260 it lists the box as a FS5C71B with the ratios of 2.906, 1.902, 1.308, 1 and 0.864. Interestingly enough in the attached site for Z transmissions (www.geocities.com/z_design_studio/) it lists these ratios, presumably for the US, as a close ratio box. I also have a box from a 71 240 that I used to have and it was very smooth with what seemed to be a shorter throw than my current box. Would you think that this would be an A box. I was intending to fit this into my 260 as the synchro's in the current box are getting a bit tired. Does anyone know the ratios for an Aust delivered A box? Cheers, Geoff

Valve cover breather
I have replaced my standard aircleaner with after market sports ones and as a result I can no longer attach the breather pipe from the valve cover to the cleaner. I have seen pics of engines with a small K & N type filter on the valver cover and was wondering if this is ok. When doing a search on the subject, there seems to be differing opinions on how effective/appropriate these are as compared to a seperate catchment tank or just leaving the breather pipe open. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks, Geoff

Sydney Z Club
The first club meeting for 2003 is on this Wednesday night the 15th at the Greyhound Social Club, 140 Rookwood Rd, Bankstown, in Room 2 (upstairs) at 8pm. There are people in the club with a lot of experience with Z cars who are happy to impart their knowledge. The club has a variety of events during the year, including social runs, sprint days at Wakefield Park, dyno nights, technical tours, etc., and there are usually members with parts for sale. After the formal meeting, there is usually a second meeting in the car park with an inspection of cars and a lot of technical discussion/bulls....ing going on. NEW members are very welcome!!!

Eibach springs
260Z, I have had a look and could only find part no 6305.140 (Pro-kit) for a 240 and part no. 6303.140 for a 75-78 280. Depending on what year your 260 is the 240 part may fit. I have a 74 260 and was looking at the same springs. I was going to make an inquiry with the local Eibach dealer in Sydney. As mine is an early 260 I feel there is a good chance that the 240 parts will fit. I have transferred front struts from a 240 onto my car and they fitted with no problems. I have also transferred some heavier duty lowered springs from a 240 with no problems. Hope this helps. Geoff Sydney Z Club

Interior colours
Steve, I have a 74 260 which is orange/red, I believe the same colour as yours with off white/beige? interior. I didn't go much on it at first and thought I would convert to black interior (reminded me of the Mod Squad!!), but it has grown on me and I am now intending to get the seats recovered in as close to original colour as I can. I need front spoiler!
Mick, If you haven't already, you may want to check out www.fibresports.com.au. They are in Sydney and they have some pics on the site which shows the shape of their spoiler. From memory I think they were about $170. Cheers
