  2. I have an unco-operative selector and presently getting only Vent air unheated - doesn't matter the setting (other than def - it closes the lower heater doors but still no def). Worked fine till today - I had a quick look around the engine comp for busted or split vacum hoses found one minor, to no avail. Had a look through the search items nothing too specific. Anyone got info?
  3. Hey Stephen Could you check mine as well - like I said last regestered in California in 1995, plate #315 TPZ, VIN: HLS30384157 - could settle that matter for me.
  4. Mine pulls hard right to the red line (perhaps beyond) - got to agree with Stephen some maintenance is likely required.
  5. Does it serve any purpose or just styling?
  6. Nota280 You got me wondering, mine is a Claifornia car as well and I got it pretty cheap. Hadn't been driven since 95 and I have had a couple of people comment that she blows smoke when I shift. I have only noticed it for the first minute or two when I start up - I was assuming the valve seals were on their way out. Perhaps mine was unable to pass the smog test - any cost effective way to find out?
  7. Looks like a beauty - maybe you can show your progress on line. Good luck
  8. Hey John This is a well discussed issue - I would recommend a search - oil or engine oil. That should give you lots of opinions. Good luck
  9. Talking to the owner today - he said it was running and the price was subjective(???) and when pressed subjective meant $9000 - I was speechless other than goodbye. No counteroffer. Still looking.
  10. Having trouble loading pics sry
  11. Carl Just sizing my rig up - it's a 77 from Califoria - it has a sensor/dummy light "floor temp" which is obviously not to sense how warm your feet may be, I'm guessing it is monitoring heat from the exhaust system - would that be the same? If so, the eng comp. plate on mine shows 170hp. I took a picture of the dummy light and the plate - I will post when my batteries recharge. BTW In the vein of conversation - I'm familiar with both the 71 and the 77, I still prefer the 71, it was pretty quick, but the 77 is a blast, fun to drive and has the capability of embarassing other drivers as well. Not too hard to look at either by the way (body parts a mostly interchangable) Bottom line for me - there's nothing wrong with the 280 - it is the fraternal twin of the 240. I love the both the same - AAHHHH
  12. They are a little telescopic - push the bolted end toward the diff, it should slide back on a spline. It did with mine anyway. Good luck
  13. I just purchased and installed a direct replacement K & N for my girl. I didn't realy bite on the hype about the additional horsepower thing, but I was impressed by it's claim for better air flow and life time service. I had to get a new filter anyway so $60 later... I didn't think about it much initially, but I'm starting to think I do see a difference in the way she pulls. (I don't work for K & N by the way) maybe a little smoother and I might be loosing my marbles but I think the exhaust note sounds a little better as well. :stupid: Anyone else got one? See a difference?
  14. Thnx for the perspective - I've sent an email to the guy, I'm gonna call him tomorrow if I don't hear back. I'll see if I can get a picture to post - it's a weird scene - evrything is jammed into the cab/rear and it's full - the hatch was tied down.
  15. Hey - sounds good. Don't forget the pics
  16. Undercarriage is good at a glance, good dash, I suspect the body mods (front @ rear wheel extentions and molded rear spoiler) were likely tied to body reairs. From what I could see it looked good - got me thinking one good all stock car and the spare body might make a good V8 Conv As you pointed out - not a lot of spares on the rock - so I am forced to think of tranport cost - I'll spend 1K regardless - from the southern states 2500. I'm thinking 3500 ? a dash is 1200.
  17. I just came across a 76 that was stripped and painted several years ago, engine overhauled, BUT the entire interior along with the bumpers and trim are all thrown into the cab. None of the reassembly outside the engine bay is done. I'm thinking parts car, but the body looks pretty good although modified slightly. Any thought on value for an offer?
  18. I agree about the battery tray it's about the only dubious spot on mine, the compression - mine has about 75k and it shows 150 to 155 all around. My understanding is 165 is like "brand new".
  19. New hatch seals did it for me - as long as I don't open the window
  20. Connectors were the only a matter of cleaning contacts for me. I bought new clips but never installed them - no need after cleaning. You mention usual rust spots - is there any? Could you post a pic.
  21. Carl - you got the one up award, but I'll offer mine anyway. In 77 I drove my old 71 Z from Victoria (Vancouver Island) British Columbia to St. John's, Nfld, Canada - That's coast to coast at the extreme points of the country in five days, solo. The car worked well - it had to - I was eighteen, spent zero on maitenance and drove it hard. Through the mountains she over heated twice. In the prairies I tested the top end many times having several airborn experiences (not recommended), overheated the trasmission (dramatic but no longterm trouble) and drove through the entire province of New Brunswick leapfrogging a 75 Vette in a very competitive manner. Not a single significant problem, other than the longterm phycological damage of listening to Fleetwood mac's "Rumours" cassette 50 times. Not a healthy thing. I'll like to do it again and take my time (and my IPOD).
  22. I agree with you Stephen - Original in good condition should stay.
  23. Nice shot Darbji280 - looks like a professional advert pic for a new car. Car looks hot.
