  1. I know it's not a Z, but a Nissan nonetheless and one could convert to an L-series under the current ruleset if they were so inclined. Anyway, an insane deal, I came very, very close to pulling the trigger on this but passed due to various reasons. The owner started out in the 40's from what I hear and is now down to 20k, including the trailer and all spares - you can't get a spec miata for less than that! Unfortunately he's lacking on the pics (however available upon request) but it's all professionally done, alot of trick stuff on there including a Saenz dog ring box which alone would probably go for about $3k used, here's a vid of a Bimmer with the same box: You probably won't find a better deal any time soon, here's his Ebay ad: GT3 1991 Nissan 240 SX 89 scca National Race Wins | eBay

Interesting history on Don's car too, when the SCCA first classed the 240/260 in EP ('98?), Sportscar (SCCA's publication) featured the construction of that car. Was quite exciting to finally see a new tub build which wasn't an IT car, no offense to the IT guys out there.

Greg, thanks for chiming in here and thanks so much for posting the vid: Jim Daniels also posted one of the better vids from the same race, lots of w2w time with you: One thing I found surprising was how much more aggressive Aaron appeared on Jim's vid vs the speedcast broadcast.
  4. Very cool, thanks for the reply. Yeah I saw the gt2 car on ebay years ago, would have loved to get my hands on it but wasn't in the cards at the time, and good deal on the ITS car, looks to be VERY straight.
  5. Yup, saw them, Cary (tube80z) would be drooling, . I was also surprised to see the diff appears to be at stock height, with the halfshafts not at an optimum angle - wondering if he had any issues with that over the years... But I digress, nothing that can't be remedied fairly easily.
  6. Not sure if that's sarcasm, but the SU's would be required in ITS, which I gather this car was raced in, and some guys claim the flattops are better in certain respects. Tommy, somewhat off topic, but do you guys run a full tube car out of your shop too? I seem to recall seeing one with similar Geneva sponsorship on it, looked to be nicely done.
  7. Very cool, the flares look great on your car, part of me would like to see them refinished, but on the other hand there's alot of history there! Agreed on your asessment of his car, overall it looks pretty good, I don't see much bad, the only glaring stuff would be that right rear subframe gash, or whatever it is, and the cage could use some updating. From what I could tell the welds looked real good though. A complete rotisserie teardown/rebuild would do wonders, and agreed, a good vintage possibility, esp. if race history is required.
  8. Very cool Steve, thanks for sharing! Looked to be in better shape back in the day, but nothing a little TLC couldn't take care of, and makes sense on the red one being the ex dutko car.
  9. Looks to be a decent car with substantial history, CP work dating back to the 70's. At first glance I thought it may be this one featured on reaction's site, but now I wonder: The Ad Datsun 240z GT-2 Vintage SCCA racer For Sale additional photos per his ad: 240 GT-2 Photos by ks71z28 | Photobucket

I've been searching everywhere trying to find out if Matt got pushed back (deservedly so), not listed anywhere on SCCA's website, finally checked here... Congrats to Greg, the 2nd place curse on that car has been broken!! And agreed Larry, congrats to Aaron on 2nd, he seems like a standup guy.
  11. My immediate thought was also the 2.6 motor, which I found a bit surprising as prevailing wisdom has always been the 2.4 was quicker with the lower minimum weight (100 lbs). With that said I'm curious now how many guys will switch to the 2.6 now that Greg has won. The bumper was news to me, and I didn't catch that on the broadcast either:embarrass: I'm guessing aero was his goal as technically the early 260's cam with the 240 bumper too, albeit protruding a bit further. I have to wonder if he could get away with something like a 940z airdam, would probably help aero a bit more.
  12. Final qualifying completed yesterday, Mr. Ira is 4th, about 1/2 second off pole (interestingly listed this year as a 260Z), and Mr. Morton is about 5 seconds of pole in 13th. No disrespect to John, but I don't find that too surprising - these guys are more competitive than most give 'em credit for. Anyway, it's always a battle against the Mazda freight train, Aaron Downey is on pole again in that surprisingly fast RX3, and Jesse Prather [Miata] is always quick. Alot of history with Ira's car as it's Grayson Upchurch's old ride. Many 2nd place Runoff finishes dating back to the late 90's, but no wins. Race time is Sunday, 1pm EDT on the aforementioned SpeedcastTV.
  13. You can pick them up in good shape used for about 2500, and can have pretty much any ratio your heart desires, here's an example: Jerico 4-speed racing transmission and shifte For Sale I've read alot of mixed reviews with the G-forces, but I'm betting much of it is/was user error - wrong lube, etc. With that said it looks like g-force is still producing them, or at least the gearsets, and Taylor would be my go-to as well.
  14. That car is now for sale: 1970 Datsun 240Z "Bremen Racing" GT-2/EP Race car Spec Sheet
  15. The problem I had with all of the OEM options out there was finding something with closer ratios, akin to the opt 2 comp box. Even the "close ratio" stuff out there wasn't close enough, not by a long shot. With that said, I'd suggest an aftermarket trans if the rules allow for it. Many EP zcar guys in SCCA are running Jerico boxes or the like, mated to either an auto trans or t5 belhousing. Plus the Jericos are good for something like 1000hp, and are about the same weight as the stock box.
  16. There was a GT2 roller for sale on Ebay, about 2-3 years ago, and I'm trying to locate it. I caught the auction too late and the lister would not divulge the new owner. It's my guess the car is still idle and peraps the new owner would be willing to make a deal. I'd like to get it mostly for it's race history and log books. Bill (prowrench on these forums) sold it a few year prior to the ebay auction, here's his ad: http://teamtac.org/e107/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?29928

sorry to drag up an older thread, but here's the race on youtube!
  18. We talked about that here a few years ago: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?34369-1980-C-Prod-Runoffs&highlight=jaguar A bit biased like most of the stuff out there, "against all odds" is a stretch. It was actually the '80 runoffs, but no biggie. An entertaining read nonetheless. I did find the entire race posted online but am having difficulty locating it at the moment. My favorite quote by the late Mr. Newman on his finish "second overall, first in class"
  19. Great link, I highly enjoyed paging through. Coincidentally here's the aforementioned Dutko GT2 car which was (is?) for sale: http://www.flickr.com/photos/27666849@N04/6139468138/in/photostream/lightbox/
  20. Thanks much Bob, looks like top notch work at that shop. Best of luck going forward.

  22. Thanks for sharing, great looking car (via google), got any good picture links? I'd be particularly interested in restoration photos.
  23. This coincidentally was a recent hot topic over at the prodcar forum: http://prodracing.com/prodcar/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12703 Apparently blowers of any kind typically don't work as both side windows of course need to be open and the moisture won't be removed from the interior, makes sense. A lot of guys are recommending dawn dish soap, simply wiped on and allowed to dry - but not specific on the concentration. One veteran mentioned diesel fuel in dire situations (when it's actually raining and too late). You'd think living up here I'd have more sage wisdom, but surprisingly I've only had one "wet" session and that was right after a heavy rainfall but not during. Suffice it to say no fogging issues for me. I installed pro-tint tear-offs on my polycarbonate windshield and was happy with them, VERY scratch resistant. I see they do sell an anti-fog laminate as well, curious how well they'd work. The problem installing them in my mind is my windshield is flat stock bent to fit, and I see no way installing it in the car. In other words applying it flat and THEN bending it when installing may be a problem. BTW, the lexan was a PITA to install, with almost no weight savings when done as the SCCA calls for 9mm (1/4") material and support bars. I did have defroster lines on my glass windshield, they worked great for clearing up the morning fog after sitting out all night, I have to wonder if they'd work on lexan too as they were the JC Whitney foil type.
  24. Yeah I thought Greg had it in the bag in the rain. Brakke dropped off and eventually spun too. The chamois-on-a-stick unfortunately didn't cut it, too bad. On a side note, I was a bit surprised to see SCCA chose Elkhart for the runoffs as the weather up here is always a coin toss at this time of the year. When sunny it's absolutely beautiful, but... With the numerous races affected by rain the past few years I have to wonder if they'll have a change of heart.
  25. Very cool car, I saw it in person at Road America back in the late 90's when Dave Dutko owned it. Had the pleasure watching him battle it out with an uber-expensive rear/mid engined Jaguar prototype car. They swapped the lead every lap, in the end the Jaguar came out on top but not by much. It's also THE car the molds were taken off which John Washington sells at reactionresearch.com
