  2. Even with the low mileage the car is showing serious problems from being a rust belt car, "rust never sleeps" and it has taken its toll on this Z. Also the car has already had body repair and over-spray as well. I think the listing company needs to evaluate it rating system. Just my 2 cents. jlp

In the spring of 1976 I was trying to refocus my life and made many changes. I quit my job managing the furniture store and opened a custom paint and van shop. This also gave me a place to work on my car. I reviewed the past work on the Z and readied it for the upcoming autocross season. I started out the season dominating the local meets and gaining confidence in my renewed quest to go to the nationals. I also expanded my experiences that summer by participating in a few hill climbs in prepared class. I would bolt on my set of Mikuni 44’s, headers with dual exhaust dumping in front of each rear tire, and upgraded tires and wheels. I found success, winning the event at Belfountain, Ohio that summer. Late in the summer, George (Pro Auto Tune) made me aware of an ad in Autoweek. The ad was for a prepared 1970 240Z located in Albuquerque, NM. Although it was a distraction from the mission at hand I purchased the car in anticipation of moving to the next level after my planned autocross championship run. At the end of the summer, George and I had qualified for the championships and were planning the trip. I was in my shop when I received a faithful call. It was the local police department making me aware that my wife had been involved in an auto accident. I went to the scene and found that, although shaken, my wife had not been injured, but the same could not be said for her pride or our Z. She was passing a car on the right which was waiting to turn, the tire of the Z touched the curb. With the small steering wheel and the wide tires the steering wheel was pulled out of her hands and the car jumped the curb and hit a light pole square in the right headlamp, pushing it back to the tire. These were the days when insurance was not required and having opened a new business and purchasing another Z, I had not renewed my insurance. Needless to say this ended my quest for a national championship. George did go, won his class and brought home the impressive first place crystal trophy. Our ‘72 Z was parked, and thus ended four years of it’s fast and furious life. It also started the 30 years of on and off attempts to restore the car. I focused my efforts on getting the ‘70 Z ready for driving schools. Although the damage from the accident was repaired, I found that the rust problem had returned. The ‘72 Z has not seen the road since the accident in 1976.
  4. I will try to get a simple cad drawing on tomorrow night. But in the meantime the two holes on each end will match up with the intake manifold carburetor bolts for the two end carburetors. The shield bolts between the carburetor front surface and the washers and nuts on the two end carbs. Jerry
  5. I have attached a couple of photos of my original Datsun Comp. Heat shield for the triple Mikuni’s. It has a thermal layer on the top and bottom of the aluminum pan.
  6. I will take that as a no, scrap it.
  7. I tend to agree, but don't want to take a chance. All other parts in the car were correct for the car. Including an original pair of "D" hubcaps etc... I didn't see how this skid plate would mount to the car and became suspect that it might be a rogue part, but I will wait to see what other members think before I scrap it.

I have attached some pictures from the trip to Classic Datsun Motorsports. Including a stop in the Arizona desert to check the straps, my brother firefighters on the trailer, the official "More Money Than Sense Tour 06" shirts, Les Cannaday with Ron Carter's Car, my car after being unloaded at Classic Datsun Motorsports, Adam Corolla's car, and (left) Jerry Purcell, (right) "Chief Allen" on the beach at Carlsbad, CA.
  9. Today I picked up the 1970 Series 1 Z car which I purchased on Ebay yesterday. I found a number of parts in the luggage area including this, what looks to be a skid plate. Is this just a rogue part or does it belong on a Series 1?
  10. Picked up the car today. Definitely not a candidated for restoration. The radio antenna works. Engine runs:bunny: 2 original D hubcaps in the rear. so on..... Question??? There is a skid plate laying in the luggage area of the car. It is not like any I have seen it is heavy gage steel with three nut plates on one side and three mounting holes on the other. Is this right for a Series 1 Z??? I will post a picture this evening.
  11. I have an original Triple Mikuni heat shield I believe. I will look tomorrow and post a picture.
  12. My 1972 has a production date of 7/72 it came with round tops. It was last of the 1972 models.
  13. :paranoid: I didn't see any $315 Bids on the car. I won't know what I am going to do with the car until I see it and access the potential. Yes, in the past I have bought and parted out many Z cars. Z car owners are always on the lookout and now days  I hate to see a car parted out. I just took the remains of a 73 to the scrap yard this fall. I wish I knew way back when what I know now, but don't we all. I will post more tomorrow after I see what I have.
  14. Yes it was well bought, I had it for around $300 but some one ran it up in the last few seconds. With the new hidden ID's on Ebay motors I can't tell who the bidder was. But all in all it was well bought. I will take a look at it to see if it is a canidate for anything more than parts. I will post more on it tomorrow after I pick it up.
  15. :stupid: I am now the proud owner of this 1970 Z. I will be picking it up tomorrow morning. I didn't get a chance to go see it prior to purchase. We will see what we got tomorrow.

Mike, I just took them down to 25% probably went too far. I might try to re-upload them at 75% in the next day or two. Mike how do you show the photos in my gallery on the thread? I will try and search for the answer on the site. Also I just took a look at the Odyssey thread and the title and first few post still read Oddessey. Thanks Jerry
