  1. A question for those who have had these in their hands. Do they appear to be OEM parts? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-240Z-280Z-Chrome-headlight-cover-trims/332146172068?_trksid=p2059216.c100149.m2821&_trkparms=ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140127103305%26meid%3D50409c5480114bf49ef82a09540e7b4d%26pid%3D100149%26
  2. I ended up with 4.5MM and 7.5MM hose. They are both a tight fit. I believe they will work well for this application and look good once the bling (restored yellow zinc original wire hose clamps) is added.

This is the spare that I have. JLP
  4. I am looking for NOS studs (differential mount to mustache bar), nuts, and differential cover bolts. Anyone know where these can be purchased. I have a NOS set of R200 studs sold to me as R180 but R200 are larger studs.
  5. These look similar if not the same. https://www.securecableties.com/4-inch-black-miniature-push-mount-cable-tie-100-pack?gclid=CNfJ65TRytICFVC4wAod_PsDMA

I will take a look, I should have one. I will look later this evening. JLP
  7. You might contact Richard, I know he was interested, but at what price I don't know. This was exactly what I thought this car would bring. You never know, if two bidders get going on an auction, one can be surprised.
  8. This post immediately reminded me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. This could turn into a lengthy conversation about the African swallow and in theory could it carry a coconut to the UK. Or more on point, bats with small amounts of flammable material attached to them released over a city. Drones, now that might work, call Amazon and see!
  9. The player becomes the played.........
  10. I'm glad I read this completely, I thought we were going to build trust and then take him out and get him drunk.
  11. I like the way you think.
  12. Ok, I think it might be time to put a strike force together to rescue these cars and parts from certain demise. Who's in?
  13. These are all reason that I try and trade what I have for what I need. If I can't trade I will go through periods where I put items on ebay to invest the monies back in my Z projects. Sometimes when I find a rare part I purchase it with no current need but know that it will be needed by someone sometime and I can possibly trade for something rare that I need. It all keeps the parts in circulation for Z car lovers and preservers.
  14. Jeff, same here. It is impossible to know what will or will not become rare. In the end all of the parts are important and will be needed to put or keep another Z on the road. That is really what is great about those who have had the time and space to set this stuff aside. I am currently looking for a rally clock to replace one that I practically or actually gave away years ago. Now, I see the importance of them in the history of the Z and I want one for my 72.
  15. You are only a few hours away. Might be a road trip in the near future. Maybe bring my 12' enclosed trailer.
  16. I have cancelled my hoarding counseling with Dr. Wack. In my defense I used this post to prove that I am not qualified to be considered a true hoarder. As I said before, I am just glad that these caches exist it gives hope to the future preservation of our passion. Keep the photos coming......
  17. Keep this going, it is encouraging to know that there are parts out there and that many more Z can be saved. Jerry Saving one piece of history at at time!
  18. I call that hoarding heaven! Thanks for sharing.
  19. I was bidding on the same clock. I set a limit of 50,000 yen not even close. Too many unknowns for that price for me. Did you notice the crack in the bezel?
  20. I will necessarily put this project on the back burner and see what turns up. In my research and planed implementation on this project I have found the following: 1. Without the oscillator (or now a microprocessor) these clocks are paper weights 2. There are a couple of other options for replacement of the oscillator recently developed (microprocessor) 3. Once you purchase a clock it will be a minimum of just under $400.00 to have it checked out and cleaned not counting any parts or repairs 4. If you have an oscillator with the clock it's clean and repair is ????? 5. To purchased a microprocessor in a re manufactured, similar to the original, oscillator case you will spend an additional $600.00 - $700.00 6. And the most surprising is that in following and planning to purchase an, (unkown), rally clock on yahoo Japan that my budget of 50,000 yen ($438.00) was not even close 72,200+yen won the auction, I was out before I begin. So patients will have to prevail and this project will necessarily be placed on a priority list of things to do to my Z I will wait for the right deal to come along.
  21. I have been in touch with Ron, he has worked on a couple of regular Z clocks for me. He makes a reproduction oscillator case now and I believe that the guts are a microprocessor to replace the oscillator. One of our members has developed the same type of replacement without the case.
  22. The vin# of my 72 is HLS30 93606. There is a thread somewhere on this site that speaks to the loose way these cars were titled. Your 9/72 titled as a 73 and my 9/72 being titled as a 72. I am sure that this 71 could have been titled either as a 71 or 72, it just happens to have been titled as a 71. That and other nuances about these cars is part of the history and mystique. JLP
  23. My 72 has a production date or 9/72. It has some of the subtle changes of the 1973. This 71 has a production date of 10/71 and could be titled as a 71 or 72 as I understand the process at the time, or the lack there of. It is obvious in the photos that this is a very original example of the car produced at the change over between 71 and 72 production. Nice find, well bought.
  24. I just went up in the attic of my garage and realized that I need to take a week of so and reorganize my Z parts. I took these photos and this is just a scratch on the surface of my hoarding. The NOS parts are put away in containers, at least they are somewhat organized. Maybe it is ebay time.......again.
  25. Congratulations on a great purchase. The car and the price was right. I have owned a few Z's including my current 1972 which I have owned for 45 years (since new) original owner. Good Luck and this site is the best place on the planet for help when it comes to Z-knowledge.
