BSR valvecover on EBay, wowzers!
I just checked my pics of the 240/280 Sharp/Newman car and it doesn't have that valve cover on it. I'll have to ask if it ever did.

240Z Race Car Up for Auction
The Newman/Sharp 280 is a 240 shell w/280 rear lights. Don't know why this car is the way it is, however.

Housing development with private racetrack?
I liked the property for sale a year or so ago in southern Italy that had over 100 acres, a 800 yr old castle, a modern 6 bdr house w/pool and a 3.2km race track and paddock. A stable of cars were to be sold separately. The track had several elevation changes and a 3/4 mile straightaway. Cost w/o cars was less than $2 million.

Side Mirror Removal - Replacement
The driver's side sits at 22 degrees and 2.5 inches from the window( at the narrow end of the mirror face) and at 31 degrees and 3 inches from the passenger side. You need to be looking at both to really see this. So the question is "why hasn't anyone taken a JDM right side mirror and put it on a US import 240 left door to see how it fit/looked?".

Side Mirror Removal - Replacement
I mounted an angled and rotatable circular convex mirror to the left side mirror (now mounted on the passenger side) due to the fact the only way the left side mirror would work right would be to mount it up too far towards the front of the door to look right. I look at the convex mirror to determine what's out there. So far it's working and I think the car looks just right with both of them. I hope to be at the Tail and the convention this year so come by and see for yourself.

pics of z car with nice rims please!!
Look over at Complete Custom Wheel (www.ccwheel.com). I have the classic version (the only ones they sell that fit an early Z '70-'78).

Side Mirror Removal - Replacement
Funny, I mounted a driver's side mirror on the passenger side and it looks just fine. The brits have them on the right side.....

What would you take...
Hey - I drive 300 miles to go fishing, race my other Z or see relatives all the time. I drive on an average over 20,000 miles a year these last 10 years but did over 35,000/yr the 30 yrs before that. I've done several 1,000+ mile trips in this and my other 240Z. I was museing out load.... Heck, I'd drive my Toyota FJ40 with 36 inch tires 300 miles one way to get to a good fishing hole. It had a 350 and snorkel kit with boat tucked up over the rollcage.

I'm new, but got the passion to learn!!
Here's my suggestions: 1) make a list of all the things your Z might need 2) start doing searches for every one of these items here and at the other Z sites (zcar, hybridz.org, zhome, etc.) read them and make a new list of questions to ask if you can't find the answer via the search function 3) get a good shop manual 4) find a local club near you (www.zcca.org) 5) estimate a budget, parts needed list and a schedule. Don't forget tools if you need to buy them as well. Good Luck.....and happy Zing

I got Hellas in there now with a harness upgrade kit. Simple installation, if you call taking the wheels off to change your headlights simple.

Done both. I've got H4s so the lights are somewhat simpler to replace. A u-joint would depend on where and when it happened and how long AAA takes to get to me.

I can just about take my whole Z apart with the tools I routinely carry. I always take along water bottles and my glovebox has an entire assortment of maps. I have AAA Plus. The fuel pump I use to supply my triples works fine until it gets coated with methanol/ethanol. I have a spare. My alternator is a GM 100amp one wire so I'm not expecting any problems from that end. Every bearing save the left rear wheel has been replaced in the last 3 yrs. U-joints have less than 1,000 miles on them. My laptop has wireless built in. That said, I drive my hard and I expect things to wear out accordingly. Nor will I be travelling alone to and from the Dragon as we have about 8 Zs coming down from the New England club for this event. Worst case I can hitch a ride on one of the two trailers that will be part of the caravan.

What would you take...
I must have been tired last night as I left out several items that are already in the car: 1) flashlight - in toolbag w/new batteries 2) 192 degree thermostat w/gasket 3) hose repair tape and extra hose clamps 4) space blanket/matches - part of first aid kit 5) fire ext. - mounted on rollbar 6) shades - photo gray glasses (extra part will be taken). 7) lumbar support - cobra seats and 5-point safequip harnesses (very comfortable and secure) As to spare upper and lower radiator hoses, I have coolflex metal hoses installed. I do need to put in a gallon container for water. I run water only w/water-wetter additive. Sleeping bag will go in w/clothes. I think I just need to solve the spare tire issue now. Thanks everyone.....

What would you take...
Driving my 240Z about 1,000 miles one-way in May to do the Tail of the Dragon event and after doing my spring repairs and upgrades I have only to tune and dyno it before I'm set to go. I've replaced the inner and outer tie rods, ball joints, front and rear control arm bushings, got an alignment, tire balancing, installed big front brakes, more aggressive rear brake pads, new wheel bearings, replaced the clutch, changed all the fluids, rebuilt the EMI camber plates and corner balanced the car with me in it (49.2 %-front 50.8%-rear). I started to put together things to take with me and was wondering if anyone had a thought on my selection: 1) cellphone 2) AAA card 3) tool bag 4) spare fanbelt 5) waterpump 6) qt. oil 7) qt. gear oil 8) fuel filters (one for before the pump and one for after it) 9) u-joints (one for the half-shafts and one for the drive shaft) 10) first aid kit 11) repair manual 12) jack 13) iPod 14) ezpass 15) fuel pump (mallory comp 140 - ethanol/methanol tends to clog them) 16) fuses, misc bulbs (headlight, tail, etc.) 17) raingear Need to solve the spare tire issue (won't fit over the 240SX rear calipers).

Ready for the show!
Yeah, I saw those bumper guards too and thought there was something wrong about them. I see you moved the battery around so the Positive terminal is no longer under the body. A 24F replacement battery I assume. You're holding it down I hope (hard to tell in the photo). Nice car. It has potential. If you're interesting in going to the next level, contact me and I'll walk you thought some of the things ZCCA judges look at. Things that mean the difference between winning and coming in 2nd or worst. Good luck....

COSMO Racing Adjustable Coil Over Kit
If I remember right John Coffey ran 400# springs in his 240Z and that was a very stiff ride, in a race car. In a street car it would be unbearable. I'm running 275 Front and 250 Rear with poly bushings, delrin/AL control arm bushings, and a ride height of just under 6 inches. For many the ride is a bit harsh. With 400# springs I'd need a new kidney. The real question is why are they selling these coil-overs with such a high spring rate. They should be able to offer different rates for different applications.

ZRush - sad news
Vickie - I am so sorry for your loss. I met you both for the first time as you backed your perfect Z off the trailer and into the lot at the 2003 convention in NH. I had the pleasure of talking with you and admiring your car as well. After the carshow I had the results burning a hole in my pocket and I so much wanted to let you both know that you would be taking the gold home for all your hard work. I remember the look on Scott's face when we annouced your car had won. I was hoping to see you again at either the Tail or the upcoming convention. He leaves a hole on the Z community. Be well.....

Zdayz ????
Art - I'll be there as well with a 1/2 doz or more New England club Z owners. I look forward to giving you a hard time...

SpareTire
Don't know but will go look in the junkyard once the @#!&*^ snow and ice stop coming down.
-
SpareTire
I figure on gettiing a new spacesaver spare that will fit over the rear brake conversion 240SX caliper (a lot smaller than the wilwoods up front). That's my plan and I'm sticking to it.....I hope anyway.

SpareTire
Having just installed new "big" brakes myself I too was wondering how my spare tire would fit over them but then like an idiot I realized that I could rotate a rear tire/wheel up front and mount the spare on the rear. Problem solved, unless you don't count the fact my spare tire had no air in and I took it out to balance the car at 50% front-rear (51% crossweighted with me in it). I'll be looking into a spare Honda tire now too.

bad dog parts
Yipes, all I'm trying to do is support my own Z habit. Thanks for the kind words. As to the fuse box, yes I have one with a cover and like all my parts (new, used, custom made) they are 100% refundable/returnable, no questions asked.

What performance do you get after upgrades?
I think the real question is how much money you got? That in itself will determine how much HP you're going to get. An L28T transplant will give you a nice upgrade if you like that approach, or you could go (staying w/L-series engines) a built L24 or 28 w/diesel crank (stroker), cam, EFI, or triples or supercharger. Throttle response? Turbo - slight to moderate lag but when it spools and hits, it's great. Supercharger - not that I have noticed (in our race car), all the nice things about a turbo and the response of an NA motor. Triples - immediate.....I just drove my L28 (3.2L stroker w/44mm Mikunis with256hp@rwhs) back from having the clutch replaced. It is a joy, but doesn't have as much HP/Torque as a prepped turbo motor (320-400 +hp@rwhs).
