steering assembly
MSA in the USA sells them in Polyurethane. Nissan used to (I *think* they still do) sell a harder rubber version through the Nismo catalog.

Intake Repairs and Insulators
I would just get the proper insulators for use with the N36 Intake and be done with it. SOme folks believe that the N36 is a better intake manifold. I would think that the E88 could be aluminum welded, but that will cost more than the insulators, and if the crack is though an intake runner, the interior of that runner should be smoothed where the repair occurs to avoid creating turbulence that could affect the operation of that cylinder. Linkage will be fine if you use the balance tube from the E88.

why is my car so heavy?
Reinforcement beams were required on 73 240Z's, but I believe from looking at the data at www.ZHome.com that the production of 73 USA model 240Z's started in August of 1972. See "Production Changes 69 - 73" in left collumn. They mention 2.5 MPH bumpers and some other changes. They do not mention the door beams, but the 73 240Z that I owned (mfg'd 3/73) had them.

POR 15 floorpan kit
Hi Mike: If he meant 1.5 inches, then I wouldn't hesitate to use the Power Mesh and Epoxy putty. It would work fine for that. It could be that he meant 1.5 inches. I dunno. Check that rail like Ed mentions. Best to fix it all at once.

POR 15 floorpan kit
The Power Mesh fabric is good, but for a 1 and 1/2 Foot gash.............I do not believe it is intended or capable of securing that kind of damage. I used the epoxy putty to fill the small to medium pin holes and it worked well also, but I don't think it provided much if any strength. One other thing to think about is if you plan on using the kit to cover one or both sides of both Left AND Right floor pans. The kit may not give you enough POR15 to do both sides of both floorpans.

POR 15 floorpan kit
The POR15 repair kit is fine for repairing "PIN HOLES" in the floorpan. It will not provide ANY structural integrity to the pan. If what you have is a "1.5' rust gash" (as I define a gash) you'd be better off spending money on the replacement floorpan AND also getting the POR15 kit to ensure that it never rusts. POR15 is a good product, but it is not magic.

Old emblems, new paint
Ken: Do you have any experience with the durability of paints that you used in an outdoor environment (subject to repeated heating and cooling cycles, constant UV, etc.)?

fuel pump wire harness
I'm no electrical wiz, but I believe that if you ground it to anything, it would stay hot all the time. I think it would need to be connected to a switch or relay in order to have 2 states (grounded, or not grounded, in essance Hot, or not hot)

Clean one on e-bay
Well. the auction is over and the selling price was $18,099.00 Beginning IMO to look like the $30K bid for the Silver 1971 240Z was an aberation. In 2 subsequent auctions of that car the bidding hasn't gotten even close to that figure. No sale at $24K on the last auction *all figures in USD

well, I finally moved
Hey Dave: You gonna be wearing cowboy boots now? Are there any cool race tracks of the caliber of Sears Point Raceway near you?

how can i stop my dash from cracking?
Maybe the alternative to "raw" silicone is "refined" (rather than "cooked")??? As for every product being tested via a Mass Spectrometer, maybe Larry Reynolds is a salesman just blowing smoke up................(you get the idea). Can he provide the actual official results of the test? Everybody says the stuff they sell, or currently use is the "Cat's Meow", and all the other stuff is Cat Poop. (not being critical of you Carl B., it's just that I tend not to believe what someone (Larry R. etc.) with a vested interest in certain products has to say publically). Did they report the false M.S.D.S sheets to the gov't? Doubt it.

Wheel Stud length?
Back in the day, Nissan sold extra long studs through the competition catalog (now called Nismo)

vinyl top?
Hi Chris: Regarding the vinyl kits perhaps arriving in bags, I have no reccollection of seeing or hearing that. I do not recollect seeing any bags of vinyl kits in the cars that I drooled over as they arrived from the dealer. I do vaguely recall seeing some sewing being done while b.s.ing and drinking beers with the trim/upholstery shop guys after hours, but I'm not 100% sure (after all these years) if I saw this specifically done for a 240Z. I don't know much about the stripe kits.................except that the stripe kit sold by MSA as "a reproduction of the original dealer option" is NOT identical to the stripes on my car (see my gallery) which according to the original owner were added to the car, along with the metal strips, and door ding strips when he bought it new. I have not paid any attention to the pictures of the factory options so I have no idea if MSA's version (or the version on my car) are similar to the factory option design, but it looks like there are at least two versions on N.A. 240Z's

three speed?
eBay listing says it's being sold for a 2nd party. My guess is that the listing eBayer doesn't know what he's talking about. He didn't even list type of engine, just a "?". that ought to show how little he knows about the car.

vinyl top?
Well, in my area of the country (SF Bay area) the Nissan dealers sent the cars to local trim shops. I worked next door to one that had a steady parade of 240Z's through the shop from many dealers for at least several years (71-73) The story told by the New Car Service guy at the Nissan dealer was that Nissan shipped as many cars as the could to America in one standard specification and dealers added aluminium wheels, vinyl tops, stripes, and interior goodies as they saw fit to "pad the price" due to limited availability of such a popular car that they could have sold more of, if the factory could have supplied them, and to enable Nissan to concentrate on pumping out maximum cars. Where did Nissan get the idea? I suspect from T-Birds, Lincolns, Caddys and the other cars that used vinyl tops in previous eras.

vinyl top?
Many of the US model 240Z's w/ vinyl tops were "decorated" by local trim shops, not delivered by Nissan with that "stuff" on them. They will vary greatly in quality and design. (But they're all fugley)

how can i stop my dash from cracking?
Laughing and crying at the same time. OEM (NOS) dashes (when/where available) are routinely priced around $800-$900. No telling how long they have been stored in a warehouse. (i.e. they aren't "new") Good condition used dashes appear on eBay occasionally, but they have been known to begin cracking in shipment and upon installation in a different vehicle. (Different stresses, and twisting, and climate) For many people, the best option is to have an original dash recovered by Dashboard Restorations (a sponsor of theis site). Several members here can provide details of their experiences withthis company. Check out their forum for further data. Unfortunately, your options are rather limited with replacing this part.

Fan blades 7 vs 8
IMO Given everything else remaining equal, more blades will move more air. I believe that my fan (72) is also a 7 blade. It could be that as part of the remedy for the fuel vaporlock problems that were encountered w/ 73 240Z's, Nissan offered an uprated fan along with the electric fuel pump, insulation wraps to mitigate the problems. Could also be that a P.O. installed the "wrong" fan for a 1973 car. MSA and Vic Brit list one plastic fan for 72-73, and a different plastic fan for 74-78 Z cars.

MidwestZ??
no website, no ebay auctions, no response to emails/phone calls (unless you are Paypal) Unfortunately, it's not looking too good at the moment.

RIP Indian Larry
I'm with you Walter. I always wear my lap belt in my Z (no shoulder belt in it currently) but I hate to wear the combo belt in my small truck as it cuts into my neck. My life, my choice.

MidwestZ??
Will: a few other people have had the same experience. They contact Paypal, Paypal contacts MidwestZ, and magically the parts ship, meanwhile customer phone calls/emails go unanswered. Hope your parts arrive soon

It varies from state to state. Some states value "rights" over "lives". In California you are required to wear a seatbelt in a moving vehicle. Does not matter if you are driver or passenger. First offense = $80 in my area, 2nd offense = $170 Don't ask me how I know this. Same requirements with helmets and motorcycles in CA. (I don't know the cost for violating this one) Watch out for Motorcycle Officer "Krispy Kreme" in Pleasanton, CA
