KAKIMOTO RACE ENGINES (L Series)
Yes , some nice bits there. Sheesh! at about $900 Aussie for a tappet cover? Just a bit extravagant for me, they're nice, but not that nice. I actually asked a similar question of the guys who imported the car, after seeing a picture of the "Special K" cam cover. They believed the price was the reason it doesn't have one, but it's all speculation. Whatever it turns out to be, it's obviously well sorted. A few minor mods, a dyno tune and printout is on the cards. Thanks Alan for your usual clear and concise response. Even though the car is built to look like a GT-R, I cringe at the idea of hinting it is anything but that, a nice lookalike. Ripper, thanks for the good rap on the car. I'll check the sump, cheers mate! Ron never suggested that the car was ever a real KPGC10, but the build quality and sound certainly makes people wonder and may account for what you heard. I think Alan would agree the car is much more practical as it is than if it were a genuine KPGC10. As it is I can take it out and play with it at the various track and show days without the concern of hurting a AU$60,000~$80,000 car. If anything untoward should happen to the engine installed, it's a lot easier to fix an L series in Australia than an S20, plus I have a spare complete worked L26 if needed. Another thought, I'd be surprised if a real one could catch this little beauty Jim.

KGC10-R Pics
Yeah I know, I made the name up, but its the closest thing to explaining it I can think of. It went to auction in Japan as a KGC10 /spec R? Wrong bits front guard gt badges, stolen intransit missing rear quarter badge/garnish? interestingly, the rear quarter panels are a different part no.'s for the real GT-R, and this car appears to have them! But the body is a kgc10...no P! A few pics from the trip from Victoria. Hey! It's Australia mate, ya gotta have a gumtree photo somewhere!

KAKIMOTO RACE ENGINES (L Series)
"Don't knock the 432 stuff. At least one other person on this forum appreciates it and shares their enthusiasm for it...... " Alan I was serious, not knocking the 432. I meant if you didn't have much on the Kakimoto tell us a bit more about the Z432...anything new. I just love reading about them, and your posts make enjoyable reading! Any info about Kakimoto and L28's would be greatly appreciated, and what you say about the street setup makes sense to me. It was sold at auction in Japan as a kakimoto recently built 3 litre. Thanks all for the kind replies. Photos videos audio.. I want to get 'em all on here somehow. As soon as possible, I need to 1; get it all recorded 2; learn how to get it posted on the site. Alpha, it will be on club rego only but I will certainly give you fair warning whenever its headed for a show or trackday! I'll post a few pics shortly.. Still floating... Jim.

KAKIMOTO RACE ENGINES (L Series)
Hi Alan, I've just bought myself a fathers day present. A very nice '72 2door KGC10, built as a KPGC10 replica, until you lift the bonnet. The motor is an L28. I'm told it was assembled by Kakimoto race engines. Outwardly it runs triple 44 mikunis, tuned length stainless extractors into a twin system (Oooohh the sound ...it's AWESOME!!). there is obviously a nice lumpy cam in it, it is very quick to rev and return to idle, once again obviously lightened and balanced internals. On the open road it goes like a scalded cat! NO hesitation and will happily spin past 6 grand in 4th...that was enough for me for now, my eyes were scanning tacho, speedo and up and down both sides of the Hume highway for diligent highway patrols (these were handcuff speeds by now!) all in a matter of ten seconds or so.After that I grabbed 5th and coasted back to a legal 110Km/h. Sorry, I was just re living the moment :classic: . What I would like to know is how to confirm whether or not it is in fact a Kakimoto engine without opening it up. I eventually found their website and gather they can build a very tough L 28! It would be nice to be able to confirm what I have is one of these. The car itself came out from Japan last year, is fitted with a half roll cage, very firm suspension and those lovely 15" watanabes so it looks the part. This is it...mine now!! . Any info greatly appreciated, if not tell us some more about Z432's and such :cheeky: Cheers, Jim.

Just Nuts!
Possible urban legend... A car club in Australia, story I heard said a "Leyland P76 "club, enquired about having tail light lenses remade. The originals were all fading badly from the original red and amber, to a very washed out clear pink and orange.New stock had gone NLA years before. A chinese manufacturer was given a set of sample lenses and the order made. To the horror of the club members when the new lenses arrived and were unpacked...sure enough, perfect reproductions of the original Faded samples that had been supplied!! If going repro, make sure your chosen manufacturer knows what you expect. I really hope this wasn't true but it is one of those stories that a lot of people seem to know about. Jim.

3x2 exhaust query
"I'm going to run it on a 3.0 L-motor for vintage, track fun, and street mayhem" My intentions exactly!! You can see why those 'glass paks were called "HotDogs" down here in Oz.

3x2 exhaust query
Interesting fact about the cattledogs..it would suggest as you do ecp48 (wassat?), that noise was the issue with a twin pipe street system. Thanks for that! YES!..well almost Symon, that shiney system in your gallery is almost the same layout as the old Prince GTB, without the collector at the front. I just gotta try it! ..Oh , while I think about it Symon, remind me to send you some Silvia pics and info I've gathered. There may be something amongst it you don't already have. Cheers, Jim.

3x2 exhaust query
Thanks for the reply Gary, The background on this is; I had a '66 Prince Skyline GT, original exhaust was twin system ending in one common muffler with a twinpipe out. After a mild cam upgrade this was changed to a "hotdog" muffler in each branch as in intermediate muffler, I think these are the same as your straight through glass packs, ending in a separate larger muffler for each branch....absolutely glorious sound, very ferrari like on the right road, you know ...6800.. change!, 6800..change! My next project I would like to get as close to the same sound, but as i said earlier I haven't seen any modified systems on the L series that run two completety separate pipes out the rear. This got me thinking there may be issues that make it necessary to join the two pipes into one at some point. Your notes on resonance and back rap (good description!) are definately food for thought. Now I wonder if the fact my earlier system had mufflers right on the end of each branch helped reduce the effect to something acceptable. I know I'm just gonna have to try it and see! But please...any and all comments, advice will be welcomed. Jim.

3x2 exhaust query
Hi there, With respect to the L 24--> L28 engine, if the exhaust system is set up as two separate pipes from headers (3 into 1, times 2) to outlets, does this pose any tuning issues? The induction is 3 x2 choke dcoe sidedraughts. The reason I ask is any factory system I've seen with twin exhausts seem to incorporate a single(common to both pipes) muffler somewhere. Anybody got any technical experience of this setup? or can advise on what I should be considering? Thanks guys! Jim.

Would you pay $3M for this?
Is there anywhere we can read about the full story of discovery, the ensueing court case etc? Off topic a bit but do any of you guys know if the Pete Brock who was part of the Shelby design team for the Daytona coupe, is the same Pete Brock who raced Datsuns (BRE?) in the States ? Jim.

White C110 Spotted in Brisbane
Remember Ray Ferguson? PRINCE on this forum, he has a white C110 GTX with the rb20 and webers. He now lives in Brisbane or SE QLD somewhere. Sounds like it might be him. His rego was SKY 66, but I don't remember if it was NSW or QLD rego. How do you view a particular members photo gallery now? Jim.

1965 Datsun Pickup on Ebay
(Saw a red C10 GTR for $10,500 (it was a 4 door) Geez!! Ya had me goin' there for a while Mr Camo. It's not a C10 GTR, but the previous model, an S54B 1967 NISSAN PRINCE A200 GT-B .The second generation of the Skyline GT, after the initial Prince Skyline GT released by Prince Motors in 1964-65. Did you see the Green one? Same issue magazine $37,000 !!. I have seen this car and it would have to be one of the most original unrestored S54-B series on the planet. Out of interest there are a few 4 door C10's in Australia...a very few! I don't know of any 4 door S20 engined GT-r's though, the original HAKOSUKA (something like boxy shape in Japanese). Nothing in the meaning as exotic as I imagined, ...I'd still have one :classic: :classic: Cheers, Jim.
