crank oil-galley plugs
Hey Carl, in my copy of the book, it has a short preface as to how they included the info from your book into the one I have. I got mine back in 1985. Chris

crank oil-galley plugs
I remember reading about this procedure in the "How to Hotrod and Race Your Datsun" book. It was my first book on Datsuns I ever owned and I read it so much its in tatters now!! If I recall, there were two versions of this book. The second one covered more models than the first which I think basically dealt with the 510. FWIW, Chris

Calendar Clock
Hi Stephen, I was hoping one of you smart folks would know the answer to that. Guess I'll go to the junkyard and find out. Chris

Calendar Clock
Hi All, Received the calendar clock from Remy (somefatcreep) yesterday. Its a neat piece. I took the outer bezel off and took a couple pics. I was surprised to see its a Citizen mechanism. I assume because it says "Citizen" below the stem, it must be. I need to find a knob for the stem but other than that its in great shape. Chris

Pillar Emblem
Hi Ed, Chris (26th) is right on. The 72 I used to have was brown but that inner panel in the hole was black. My 73 was repainted and it too was black inside. Chris

Datsun 240RS origins and history
Absolutely correct Michael. I recall the old cheesy tv ads for the 280ZX and they said "Datsun, by Nissan" in the ad. Then shortly thereafter the cars were all Nissan and no more Datsun. Chris

Problems on Freeway in cold weather (SU Motor)
Give www.ztherapy.com a look see. They can help you. The carbs wont compensate for anything except your right foot!! I still think its a lack of fuel issue but you never know. Chris

Problems on Freeway in cold weather (SU Motor)
Dont know about the weather differences for you, but the L28 will require more fuel under heavy load than the L24. I had to increase the fuel delivery on my setup (same as yours L28 w/SU's). The float bowls on my car were running dry and the car would buck and lurch and have no power. Once I tweaked the floats and the mixture and made sure I had good pressures, then I had no more problems. FWIW, Chris

Pillar Emblem
There's a formed sheet metal piece in there that blocks the view from outside the car as to where the air enters from inside the car. Jeez that sounded confusing. Chris Mr Camo beat me to it.!!

Pillar Emblem
Hey Vicky, The first Z's that had the "240Z" pillar emblem probably had no hole as those cars vented out the hatch vents. Then the cars with the round Z emblem have holes about the size of a golf ball. All later 240/260/280Z's will have the vent hole behind the round emblem.

Datsun 240RS origins and history
Those were some fantastic cars and engines. I'm amazed to read the specs on the FJ24...238 or 277 horsepower from a 2.4 four cylinder!!! Jesus Joseph and Mary!! Makes the KA24 series engines seem like lawn mowers. Chris

Well, I'm glad you're OK. I wanted to be upset with you for putting it in a ditch but its your car now. I was 17 once. Thank god. Chris

Grrrrrr
Yep, I did too, something about those great engines and good suspension. Plus once you look past the rust, she's still a sexy Z car.
