need info. installing fuel inj. in 240z
Ok, all the manifold are on, and someof the wiring is done. Stuck on a couple of things....first of all, which injector leads go to which injector :cross-eye Anyone have a wire color/injector cross reference ? My biggest concern is that I can't find the fuel injection relay which is prevalent in the 280z 'EFI bible'. I've been looking in 280ZX's for it and cant find it at all. Does anyone have a picture or something ? Here are a couple of pics, First one is where Im at, second one shows wiring which is supposed to hok up inside the car...I've got no idea what to though ! The L28 engine was ripped out of an R30 skyline (previous owner had replaced the L24), so Im not even sure if I have the L24E harness, or the L28 harness.

L24 L26 L28 Dyno results
For all intents and purposes ps=hp. Someone will probably havethe EXACT value though.... PS, pistons are WPC which appear to be a Moly alloy from what I can read.

Stiff springs, standard strut inserts
Just wondering how this combo would go? I know ideally I would need to use strut inserts to compensate for the springs, but for the moment they are just out of my budget. What I am mainly concerned about is the car bouncing with the stiffer springs.....is this likely? Ray

need info. installing fuel inj. in 240z
Unfortunately we never received the above model in australia, so will be using external surge tanks and hi pressure pump

need info. installing fuel inj. in 240z
Im guessing that you got it all sorted in the end? My intake and exhaust manifolds are going on tonight, and wiring will be happening next week. What this about a pump relay under the dash that someone mentioned? I might have to grab all the relays from a 280zx somewhere. Any other tricks other than the fuel lines/pump ?

Delco ECU?
Just wondering what sort of work is required in making a Delco ECU work on an L28E? The kalmaker software used to tune it, is that free or not ? I have read a bit on megasquirt and it seems like it could be a good deal, but the delco is a homegrown item and could be picked up quite easily (and possibly cheaper). Although not wanting to spend lots of money on the performance pit that is the L28, with a tunable ECU its something that you could take across to other engines (in theory) if need be.

Std electric pump as lift pump
Did you replace the stadard item with a higher capacity unit ?

Std electric pump as lift pump
Planning on using the standard 260z electric fuel pump in conjuction with a VL pump to feed my L28E with fuel...will the standard pump provide adequate fuel for me ? Just wanting to make sure before I put it all in. Also...where do most people put the surgetank...on the other side of the tank ? Ray

Getting closer....
Nope, its from an R30 Skyline. 40cc closed chambers. valves are L26 size though. Benefits? My head was screwed, needed another and I got this one for $50.

Getting closer....
My car has been sitting for ages(and I mean a long long time...) and I've only recently had time to put an engine in it. Here are some pics. Please dont be too offended by the sideskirts...previous owner put them on and I will be taking them off, anyone wanna buy em ? The engine is a rebuilt L28 with small cc E88.

URGENT! 280ZX -> 260Z mounts
Very handy thread I just put the L28 into the 260 and when I went to bolt the mounts down they were waaayyyy off....it only then clicked that the monuts were from an L28 that had been in an R30 before. I'll just grab some 280zx mounts. Ray PS The gbox mount rubber from an R30 wont fit either

installed moustache bar bushing wrong...
Who woulda thought it was possible !! I bought a new urethane type moustache bar bushing to replace the rubber ones. I cut the top folding bit off with a hacksaw, and then burnt the rubber out. I was then about to remove the original bush housing but then I looked at my urethane bush and thought "Nah, this will fit in here perfect, the new bushing will be too small if I cut this bit out". Well, after a LOT of co-ercing I got the thing in and it looked like it was made for it...but then I put the metal centre in and the bushing just balloned everywhere. The metal centre does not protruce both ends of the bush, but I have installed it for the mean time. If I dont notice anything adverse when driving should I just leave it as is, or could it somehow magically ruin something ?? Cheers Ray

name this camsprocket...
Thanks guys, just wanted to make sure

name this camsprocket...
Is this a standard L28 sprocket ? Haynes manual shows a different one. It is sitting on an L28 camshaft in this picture...

Y34 piston in L28 ??
yeah, pretty much figured the same. Oh well, I now have a complete set of the SAME pistons (23 on these ones) in the block

RB30 in a 240Z
Interesting that you say that, I was just reading that pparently all 'early' nissans had serious problems with their CAS, and apparently more than half of the RB30 have had to have them replaced !!!

RB30 in a 240Z
Would definately do the Head swap if I got the VVT at that price, but I think I would stick with the single cam at the price that I see most of them go for ($700+) How does your car handle Steven? I have heard that the front suspension needs a bit of tweaking with the RB30. I might take you up on that offer for a drive when my car is back on the road at the end of the month....hopefully

RB30 in a 240Z
I didnt weant to cut the tank open, so Im going with external surge tank and fuel pump. Im just using the standard elec pump as a lift pump to the surge tank

In the middle of doing all that for my L28 efi engine

RB30 in a 240Z
That's why i said "purely in power terms".Im not too worried about bastardising a Zed, I've got a 1JZGTE sitting beside my 260Z waiting to go in one day :-) And no the RB30 would not be all that much better than an L28 stock for stock. But when you start modifying you don't have to worry about that $1K+ for the stroker. By all means if you can get an LD28 crank, Rods and pistons for cheap then I would do it as well. You can buy RB mounts for less than $150, and wiring, well its all attached to the engine. BTW when I said "Speaking purely in terms of making a faster Zed car for less money, I can't see why the RB30 is not a better option over the L28", I meant it in the sense that if anyone does know why, then I would love to hear from them.

RB30 in a 240Z
I might resurrect this thread, save starting another. Although Im more interested in the RB30. Yes we all know that the RB20DET and RB25DET are more powerfull etc, but they arent NA, and you cant pick em up at the wreckers for $200. Is their really any point (purely in power terms) of building up an L28 over an RB30?? Why pay hundreds (or more) dollars in stroker kits when you can get the complete stroked motor out of a VL commodore ! From the little reading I've done on the RB30, they dont rev well, and they dont breeathe well. So, cam work, valve work and port work may be in order, this is something that a lot of us would do to the L28 anyway... Surely the stock RB30 intake is not as bad as the ZX. It even has a hotwire MAF (55 or so??), and a chippable ECU !! How much heavier is the RB30 over the L28 ? This is the only downside I can see against the RB30 (oh and of course its a bit taller). But unless its enormous than it wouldnt be soo bad. Speaking purely in terms of making a faster Zed car for less money, I can't see why the RB30 is not a better option over the L28. Of course anybody putting a straight six NA realises the power restrictions, so thats not really an argument.

RB30 crank ?
The main thing being though...you could go to a wrecker and get an Rb30 crank for $50....LD28 is another story. Yeah that would be good if you could chuck the RB25 crank in there, would be interesting. I've pretty much resigned the idea of making a hi-po L series though, just not worth it
-
RB30 crank ?
After thinking it though a bit, the L28 block is not tall enough. You would never get any sort of decent rod/stroke ratios with it.
-
RB30 crank ?
Apparently the bore offsets are the same....hmmm
-
RB30 crank ?
Just wondering if anyone has tried using an RB30 crank in the L28 ? Instead of an 83mm stroke(LD28), you would get an 85mm stroke. The main journal diameters are pretty much spot on, so just as long as the lengths between them are the same it hsould sit right in there. I guess the only problem would be getting the right rod and piston height setup. You would need to change the crankshaft sproketand interference between the crank and the block _might_ be an issue...hmm, anything else I am missing ? has it been done before to anyones knowledge ? ray
