  1. Check out my gallery. The pics look great, I would download more, but it takes too long for me to wait. I am probably doing something wrong. Good luck finding a powdercoater. Rick.
  2. So thats what happened to Gail. It is good to finally know. 71ZZZZZ, I will be at the MSA show in April showing off my recently restored 1970, would love to hook up with any Classic Zcar Club members. Good luck on your paint. Rick.
  3. What ever happened to Gail? I used to get parts from her in the early to mid eighties from Premier Products. She is/was a great lady. Great story by the way. I am from Northridge and the earthquake did some damage to our house as well. Cannot wait to see pics of the car. Rick.
  4. Hello, went to the junk yard, bought them cheap, brought them home and buffed them on my buffing wheel. They look fantastic. Rick.
  5. I reversed the positive and negative leads on the tach. Then connected a wire from the negative side of the ZX coil to the pole on the tach. Worked like a charm. Hopes this thread helps someone in the future. Rick.
  6. Anyone swaped out the tach, please help. Rick.
  7. Appreciate the help. I am sure someone out there has done the swap and will be able to assist. Thanks again, Rick.
  8. Correct, black/white to positive and black wire connected to nothing.
  9. Arne, I used the coil from the ZX and bypassed the ballast resister by connecting the black/white wire to the green/white wire. I don't know why it is not working. So I want to use the 280Z tach, but I don't know how to wire it. Enrique, do you have any input? Thanks, Rick.
  10. Hello all, has anyone out there changed the tach from a four wire to a three wire in a 1970 240Z? Could you let me know how you did the wiring. I installed a distributer and a coil from a 1983 ZX. Of course my tach stopped working. I have the three wire unit, I just need to know how to wire it. Cannot find it anywhere in the forums. Please help. Rick.
  11. Each state is different. The most stringent are CA and NY. I am a used car dealer in CA, and the new law is 1976 and newer need all of their smog equipment. So you could take a 1975 280Z and convert it to carburators. Don't know if this helps. Rick.
  12. Thanks for all the nice words. To clean all the aluminum I used a media blaster then followed up with a scotch bright pad. It is not shiney but it looks stock. When I got my Z it was pretty much unmolested, so all the stock hose clamps are there.
  13. I made friends with the local engine machine shop, and he charged me $20.00for about 4 hours of doing it myself on his sand blaster. It also helps to have him do some of your engine work. I was there for three days and $60.00 bucks later all of my suspension pieces looked great. When you want something done right you have to do it yourself. Rick.
  14. Well after a year and a half at the body shop(my buddy made me a deal, he wouldn't charge me a lot and he would work on it when he had spare time) and back in my garage for two months, I have my early model 1971 240Z all done. It started right up and I drove it around the block. I would like to thank everyone that helped me in my journey. The past two months were all very long days, filled with a job and then putting the car back together. It will be good spending time with my wife and son again. Check out my gallery. I believe the car is beautiful. Happy New Year! Rick.
  15. In regards to my shifter question, I know this may seem sophmoric, but the finishing of my restoration rests on this question. I started the car for the first time yesterday and it fired right up. Pics will be soon to follow. Please help. I want to drive my baby. Thanks, Rick.
  16. Hello all, can a shifter from a 78 5 speed fit into an 82 5 speed? The 82 uses the spring loaded shifter and I would rather not use that one. Let me know. Thanks, Rick.
  17. The best stuff I have found is Purple Cleaner from Car Quest. It eats dirt and grease, but is safe for all vinyls. It also does wonders for degreasing engine compartments. It is a citrus base, so it is biodegradible. Been using it for years, love it. Rick.
  18. I like the idea of keeping it as stock as possible, but make it perform a little better. My 70 Z looks totally stock (and I have all the stock parts) but I upped the power with a bigger engine (2.8 l),and a 5 speed. If I ever sell the car, I will put all the stock parts back into it. For now I have a fun car with a lot of power.
