I just want to ask a silly question .. but I would like to be sure about this .. Are the doors of a 71 240 the same as doors from a 77 280 ? Can I swap them ? I have a parts car (71 240) and am using some of its parts from my 77 280 . If i can I may restore the doors from my 240 and then swap them onto my 280 without being without doors for a lenght of time. The 280 is my driver. Thanks ..B

Hi beandip .. are you refering to the S30 Microfiche on CDROM or is there info specifly on the auto to 5spd changeover? The Microfiche is $30 ... is why I ask .. Thanks ...Bruce

Well .. the thing is that the FI system in the car has been pieced together alittle so there are pieces of hose fitted here and there and it looks pretty crappy. I intend to restore this car completely and I dont like doing things half way. The cost to rebuild the FI system could be quite high I would guess. Please correct me if I am wrong .. I am really looking for others input here .. So my thoughts were that the SU's make for a much cleaner and neater engine compartment and I have experience with them. It also seems like a pretty easy change over. I am also considering tripple webbers now that read more into the forum. That could be a kewl project and would have great results. Cost is not really a big consern here .. but would these tripples make a no-daily driver or do they produce a nice smooth ride? My plan also includes a mild cam with high perf timeing gears. I am looking for input as to the pros and cons of removing my FI system (it is working ok) for SU carbies. I really dont like the FI system and am wondering what carbie I can put on here. I am guessing almost any SU from any Z? What would be the best carbie? Would and early (70's) z carbie work well and would it produce the same HP and would it improve/reduce my MPG? Thanks ..Bruce

Please forgive me for asking a question that has been asked before .. but I would like to be sure of the answer. I just bought a very clean 77 280 ..some body rust but otherwise in complete condition and runs and drives great, interior perfect.. $700 CAD. I intend to restore this car and would like to change the auto over to a 5 spd and install carbies instead of the FI system. Can someone please tell me what parts I need for the auto swap and any things to watch out for. It seems to be this should be quite easy. And also what are the pros and cons of the carbie's over the FI? I just dont like the FI system either looks of it or the akward operation of it compared to other FI sytems. Thanks in advance ..I will post pics soon and show the progress of the project. It seems to me there is better interest in this year on z as of late. Bruce PS I have a completely rebuilt auto tranny for sale and one auto tranny that wont shift out of 2nd gear when warm for sale also. i will ship to you no problem.

Can anyone give me a rundown on the procedure of droping a 350 into a 280? Just a brief note is great. I have bought a 280 with possible injector/motor problems and I have really nice 350 in my beat up truck .. so anyway ..you get the picture. Thanks ..Bruce

Hi all ..just hoping someone could give me some info I am about to pick-up a 76 280 z I bought and the owner says the injectors are shot and that is all that is wrong. What would be the first test to determine what is wrong with these injectors? I am a carb guy and am not too sure how to work on injectors. Thanks .. Bruce

Thanks .. it is a 76 2+2 .. I picked up for $200 .. I think it is a pretty good deal ..but dont have the car yet .. thanks for the help .. I thought I would try to un-clog the old one too .. seems that should be possible ?? B

I just bought a 76 280 that needs injectors (apperently) I will find out when I get it home. Anyone have suggestions about what to do with this thing. It was suggested that I should just find a set of SU's and forget about the FI system. Any suggestions here would be great.
