  3. I will be at the SVRA Historics this weekend at R.A. Supposed to be several Z cars entered. I will have the camera, so should have pics to post as long as I don't forget the film.

Welcome I remember you being a frequent poster at Zcar.com. Have you finally got tired of all the children over there? Hopefully so. I think you will find this site more informative. And Mike shuts us down if we get too out of hand. But we do like to have fun!

  6. Sure you can test a capacitor. Just do what the mechanics did when I worked at a dealership. They always kept one charged up by pulling a plug wire and put it on the capacitor wire. Then when a salesman from up front wandered in back they would hand it to him. After the salesman had it in his hand it took about 2 seconds for him to touch the wire end while holding the body. When he was knocked on his arse you know it was good. 35K volts. Great fun! After awhile they learned to stay up front in the showroom.
  7. For my 5 speed I purchased the factory leather knob from a 280ZX. It is excellent quality and has silver face with black pattern lettering. Those wooden ones are near impossible to find. The old Datsun Comp. Dept. used to have them in their catalog.

Your right Pancho, I think you got stroked. Heck, the stock 280's I have driven even with a stick were lucky to even get to the red line.
  9. I just saw a set on eBay last night. You don't see them very often thats for sure.

Wow! I love that blue and white Z car. That is about the best looking track car I have ever seen. Checked out your ZClub website also for the first time. Excellent.

I use the pump that Carl referenced. Mine came from nissan but I am sure it is the same. With the engine running I cannot hear it. Use the rubber mounts also. Its been on for 15 years but is only driven during the summer.

I don't know if this was posted here. I read on another site that David Weber of Malvern Racing recently died. He apparently was battling cancer. I know I could not access his site. This is very sad news. I never got to talk to him but heard he loved to talk your ear off about datsun engines. I know he was very knowlegable on how to the most from a L series motor. Know that all the car guys will miss you for sure.

Ben What year is your Z? If it is a 73 or 74 you have a elec pump in series with the mech. pump. If so, the mech pump could go out and you would still be ok I'm sure. I would like to know how you tell if if you are getting air bubbles? X-ray vision? Why would mech. say filter is ok? Did he take it off and blow thru it? One thing about the 240Z fuel filters is they are extremely effective. When they are bad you cannot blow thru them. They will hardly pass water if at all. You cannot tell by looking at them either.

  21. I came to the same conclusion as to this problem with all of our aging light switches. The plastic on mine was also very worn but not to the extent as yours. I solved mine by putting a small ball bearing behond each of the springs. This had the same effect and also slightly increased the tension exerted on the rockers. FWIW

The box is the tach adapter p/n 8920. This install is on a 72 Z and was required because it has a voltage triggered tach. The round red item is the noise capacitor p/n 8830. It is primarily a voltage safety item for the 6AL. See attachment.
